White Paper on the Labour Economy 2005 Summary

Part I of the "White Paper on the Labour Economy 2005," "Trends and Features of the Labour Economy in 2004," analyzes current trends of the labour economy mainly in 2004. Part II, "Labour Policy Issues in a Society with a Declining Population," predicts that Japan's population will peak in 2006 and begin declining, and the Japanese first baby boom generation (born in 1947-1949) will begin retiring in 2007, Part II analyzes the issues that must be tackled in order to achieve sustainable development in the face of labour supply constraints. In addition, the White Paper examines initiatives on the labour policies required if we are to build a society where all work together for mutual support.
