Contractual cash earnings were 280,327 yen increased by 0.3% and scheduled cash earnings were 262,951 yen increased by 0.2%.

Real wage index were decreased by 0.8%.

2 Hours Worked

Average monthly total hours worked per regular employee of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in August 1999 were 149.7 hours increased by 0.9% compared with a year earlier .

Scheduled hours worked were 140.6 hours increased by 0.9%.

Non-scheduled hours worked in Manufacturing were 11.7 hours increased by 4.5% and the seasonally adjusted figure was increased by 2.4% from the previous month.

3 Employment

Regular employees of establishments with 5 or more regular employees in August 1999 were decreased by 0.2% compared with a year earlier, full-time employees were decreased by 1.0%, part-time employees were increased by 3.3%.

Regular employees of major industries were as follows: decreased by 2.2% in Manufacturing, decreased by 1.3% in Wholesale and Retail Trade, Eating and Drinking Places, and increased by 2.1% in Services.
