By connecting people and communities ITU accelerates social, economic and environmentally sustainable growth and development. Ethical behaviour is fundamental to the success of ITU's work.
The Ethics Office promotes the development and implementation of the highest standards of ethical behaviour in all the activities of the ITU. We uphold policies and systems to foster accountability and transparency to our members and the public. The Ethics Office is an independent function committed to the integrity of its mandate.
The main responsibilities of the Ethics Office are:

Leading ethical standards by developing and implementing policies, practices, and behaviour that promote the highest ethical conduct;

Advising management, staff and stakeholders by providing confidential advice and guidance on ethical behaviour (e.g., gifts, honours, outside activities, conflicts of interest, standards of conduct, etc.) and providing guidance to staff to understand and adhere to ITU policies, procedures and practices;

Awareness raising and trainings by developing and managing ethics and compliance outreach and training programmes, including information sessions, workshops and briefings on ethical issues;

Addressing and protecting against retaliation by reviewing concerns reported to the Ethics Office and taking appropriate action;

Working with Stakeholders and reporting on ethics issues, including ethical standards and trends in all of the ITU's activities.

Identifying and addressing Conflicts of Interest in all areas of ITU business and administering the ITU's financial disclosure programme;

Working with the UN System-wide Ethics Network and related external organizations.
