Introduction

Testing new technologies in different scenarios before rolling them out is an essential part of the implementation of any ICT solution. While ITU-T’s IPTV standards are developed as open, globally interoperable technology, testing is still necessary to provide real-time data on quality of service and interoperability in different environments, regions or countries.
ITU’s IPTV IPv6 Global Testbed connects sites worldwide to test various aspects of ITU-T’s IPTV standards as well as related technologies.

Those who are ITU members and interested in joining the Testbed, please contact us at: interop@itu.int .

Objectives

Page Content 2
The testbed enables experiments on new technologies using ITU’s IPTV standards across international networks. Its objectives include, but are not limited to:
  • Experimenting and showcasing IPTV, IPTV related technologies and other IPv6-based technologies in real environments
  • Delivery of high-definition content to connected sites worldwide
  • Promotion of ITU-T’s IPTV deployment
  • Promote deployment of IPv6 worldwide through extension of the existing test bed
  • Gain operational experience in deploying an IPv6 network
  • Enable an infrastructure that can be reused for other activities through IPTV, e.g. cloud applications, e-health, e-government, etc.
  • Feedback results to ITU-T Study Groups to improve standards, technical documents, etc.
  • Capacity building – disseminate information on up-to-date technologies and experience
