The course offers training in basic epidemiology and biostatistics including practical survey skills, which apply to daily clinical practice. In addition to the lectures with interactive discussions, group projects and in-class group exercises are performed, allowing participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills. We cover various topics including maternal and child health, lifestyle-related diseases, psychiatric disorders, and gerontology – topics that often coincide with the needs of Vietnam to tackle traditional and emerging health problems.
The course targets mid-career physicians and university lecturers and train about 100 participants each time. Lecturers are Japanese and Vietnamese physician-researchers. In addition, graduates from previous courses serve as teaching assistants. Lectures are carried out in English with Vietnamese translation.
