ACT Project to be showcased at the 5th Global Conference on Foodborne AMR
The Action to support Implementation of Codex AMR texts (ACT) project will be featured at the 5th Global Conference on Foodborne Antimicrobial Resistance (GCFA), taking place on 16–17 September 2025 in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
Hosted by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of the Republic of Korea, the GCFA provides a global platform for sharing knowledge and experiences on tackling foodborne antimicrobial resistance (AMR). "As the ACT project approaches its conclusion in 2026, the conference offers a timely opportunity to showcase its achievements, lessons learned, and remaining challenges." said Myoengsin Choi, ACT project coordinator.
ACT Highlights at the GCFA
- Global video - The ACT Global video will be screened during the event to highlight the progress and raise awareness.
- Country case studies – Two country case studies will be shared in the E-Poster session, highlighting practical experiences in implementing Codex standards.
- Session Four "The policy initiatives and outcomes by international organizations" on 17 September will focus on integrated AMR surveillance, with the ACT project presenting its work at the global, regional and country levels.
AMR continues to pose a serious global health threat, demanding both national action and international collaboration. The 2023 UN General Assembly Declaration and the FAO Resolution on AMR underscore the urgent need for countries to implement Codex standards – particularly those addressing foodborne AMR – and called on FAO to provided global guidance to help reduce antimicrobial use.
Adding to the momentum, Thanawat Tiensin, FAO Assistant Director-General, will deliver a congratulatory speech at the opening ceremony, commending the efforts of ACT partner countries and encouraging continued progress.
Applications for e-Poster presentations are now open, alongside pre-registration for in-person and online participants.
Archives from past conferences are available on the official GCFA website and the 5th GCFA will be livestreamed on YouTube.
