The Third ECO ASIA Workshop was held in Tokyo, Japan from 11 to 13 March 1996. It was organized by the Environment Agency of Japan and was attended by 36 participants from 13 countries and 5 organizations. The Workshop selected Mr.Saburo Kato as Chairperson, and Mr.R.P.Sharma from India as Vice-chairperson.
The dry report on the ECO ASIA Long-term Project, which was composed of the following 4 chapters, was presented by the resource persons.
- Current Situation and Future Perspectives
- Asia-Pacific Eco-Consciousness
- Future Regional Action
- Conclusions and Recommendations
Participants divided into three groups and discussed the first three chapters in detail. After that, each Working Group reported the outcome of discussions to the plenary session.
The Workshop agreed as follows:
additional information needed to revise the dry will be forwarded to the secretariat by participants so requested by the end of March;
a preface will be included before chapter 1 to clarify the purpose of the document, the relationship between chapters 1, 2 and 3, and the work schedule toward presentation to the CSD in 1997;
further work is needed for formulating the dry report which will be submitted to ECO ASIA'96, a ministerial level conference, which will be held in May 1996.
