ADBI-ADB Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
In 2025 ADBI, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), launched a joint initiative to build institutional capacity and cultivate a new generation of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practitioners across Asia and the Pacific, especially among policymakers and legal professionals in ADB developing member countries.
The program includes policy dialogue roundtables, e-learning modules and skills-based training programs in mediation, negotiation, and investment dispute resolution, curated and executed by experts in the field. The program aims to support legal innovation, conflict management, and sustainable development across the region and beyond.
By promoting the understanding and practical application of ADR, the initiative aims to strengthen trust, transparency, and cross-border cooperation. Strengthened ADR frameworks are expected to boost regional trade and investment, build stakeholder confidence, and deepen integration across Asia and the Pacific.
Objectives:
- Enhance national and regional capacity of policymakers, legal professionals, and ADR practitioners through research, policy dialogues, and professional training programs.
- Strengthen institutional and legal frameworks for international ADR in ADB developing member countries (DMCs) in line with global standards such as the UNCITRAL Model Laws and the Singapore Convention on Mediation.
- Promote regional knowledge sharing and collaboration among ADR institutions, government agencies, and academic bodies to strengthen regional collaboration and harmonize ADR policies and practices.
- Encourage the effective use of ADR mechanisms in commercial and investment disputes to support inclusive growth, economic resilience, and sustainable regional integration.
