The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as "JAMSTEC") will enhance its working environment through active suggestions and discussions on the elimination of risk factors with the safety of human life being the first priority in performing its duties and with all its officers/employees striving to prevent incidents.
With the above awareness, JAMSTEC sets forth its basic policy on safety as follows.
JAMSTEC shall set safety targets based on actual operations, continuously improve the working environment of those engaged in the operations, and give rewards to recognize outstanding safety activities.
JAMSTEC shall predict the risk of operations to the maximum extent and implement substantive precautions to avoid or reduce greater risks.
In investigating incidents or problems and determining the cause, JAMSTEC shall first prioritize the transparent and fair clarification of the direct and root causes and then share all lessons learned with all officers and employees.
