Admission guidelines for becoming a Special Auditor (“Tokubetsu Chokou Gakusei”) for 2021
Applicant Qualifications
A graduate student enrolled in a university which is allowed to exchange students with the Graduate School of Science at the University of Tokyo in accordance with an Agreement on Academic Exchange for Cooperation with the University of Tokyo or with its Graduate School of Science.
Application procedure
- Application period:
- For applicants wishing to enroll in April 2021: From November 2, 2020 to November 30, 2020 (Arrive-by Date)
- For applicants wishing to enroll in September 2021: From May 6, 2021 to May 31, 2021 (Arrive-by Date)

- Application Documents:
- Application form for admission as a Special Auditor (prescribed by the School of Science)
- Student registration certificate for home university (Japanese or English translation must be attached.)
- Transcripts of academic records issued by home university or college attended (Japanese or English translation must be attached.)
- Photo-mount for student identification card application (prescribed by the School of Science)
Selection Procedure
The selection of applicants will be made by examining the application documents. However, applicants are required to obtain the approval of the teaching staff (professor(s)).
Selection results and Course registration
- Notification of results
- Applicants will be notified of the results by post around the following times:
- The end of December 2020 for applicants wishing to enroll in April 2021
- The end of June 2021 for applicants wishing to enroll in September 2021

- Applicants permitted to enroll must register for courses as specified in the information sent with the selection results. If the enrollment is not completed within the specified period, the applicant will not be allowed to attend any courses.
Notes
- You will receive proof of accredited courses taken at the School of Science during your period as a Special Auditor.
- The period of enrollment for Special Auditors is for one year at maximum. Application for extension is possible. The total period as a Special Auditor is limited to 3 years.
- Registration for undergraduate courses is not permitted as a rule, although if the department permits, you may take undergraduate courses allowing UTokyo graduate-student enrollments. The same regulations apply to courses offered at other graduate schools.
- Fees for Special Auditors :
- There are no application or admission fees for Special Auditors.
- Tuition fee: 14,800 yen per credit
(Tuition fee = 14,800 yen ×ばつ total number of credits)
Note: The tuition fee is subject to change. - If you are a student enrolled in a university with which the University of Tokyo has a tuition fee waiver agreement, you are not required to pay the tuition fee.
