Although the state of emergency was withdrawn in May, the number of infected people with SARS-CoV-2, the virus which causes COVID-19, is growing in Japan, especially in Tokyo area. All university members are requested to take measures to protected themselves from infection and avoid unnecessary contacts with other persons since anyone without symptoms could transmit the virus to other people.

The University of Tokyo sets its activity restriction level to 0.5 of 0 to 4 scale, where 4 is the highest alert and 0 was normal activities like "pre-covid-19."

The following is general information for your health and safety.

A new coronavirus is causing an outbreak of respiratory illness. The number of patients is growing in Japan as well. Preventive actions are recommended.

How to Protect Yourself & Others (source: CDC) :

•Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
•Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
•Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
•Put 6 feet of distance between yourself and people who don’t live in your household.
•Stay home when you are sick.
•Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others
•Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
•Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
•Monitor Your Health Daily

- If you feel sick, seek medical care. Before you visit a hospital / clinic, call in advance and tell the staff about your recent travel / contact and your symptoms.
