Invitation for Public Comments on the Draft of "IoT Security Safety Framework"

1. Background and Purpose

METI established the Study Group for Industrial Cybersecurity in December 2017 in order to address cybersecurity issues. METI also launched the 2nd layer Task Force on August 2nd, 2019, under the Study Group, and started discussions concerning trustworthiness of mutual connections between cyberspace and physical space.

In “Society5.0” (human-centered society) and “Connected Industries”, where cyberspace and physical space are highly integrated, it is very important that information is converted accurately at the border between cyberspace and physical space. In other words, it is vital to secure the accuracy of the transcription and translation function.

To implement security measures for devices and systems that connect cyberspace and physical space, or in other words IoT devices and systems, it is necessary to take into account not only a diversity of issues related to IoT devices and systems but also a diversity of environments in which IoT devices and systems are utilized.

The Task Force, taking into consideration those diversities related to IoT devices and systems, discussed concepts for securing the trustworthiness of mutual connections between cyberspace and physical space for the “Society5.0” and the “Connected Industries” and compiled a draft entitled “IoT Security Safety Framework“.

METI invites public comment on the draft in order to receive diverse opinions.
