Report on Trends in Regional Economies and Industries in January 2020 Compiled
March 26, 2020
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) compiled a report on economic indices concerning production, private consumption, business investment and other elements by region in order to ascertain the trends in regional economies across Japan.
Key points
- Indices of industrial production (seasonally adjusted value; year-on-year basis) improved in six regions, including the Kanto, Tokai and Kinki regions, while they decreased in three regions, i.e., the Hokkaido, Hokuriku and Shikoku regions.
- Sales on a year-on-year basis in six types of business in the retail trade industry showed an increase in all eight regions.
Note: METI published the “Regional Economic and Industrial Research” on a quarterly basis. It has now decided to compile a report on region-based economic indices of production, private consumption and other elements and to publish it as a “Report on Trends in Regional Economies and Industries” every month.
