Review Proposed Sound Recordings

You can use the Proposed Sound Recordings (SRs) tab in YouTube Studio Content Manager to review proposed Sound Recordings that may potentially contain your compositions. To accept or reject proposed Sound Recordings, review the metadata and melody matches to your compositions.

These features are only available to Music Publishing partners who use YouTube Studio Content Manager.

Understanding your Proposed Sound Recordings

Your Proposed Sound Recordings (SRs) will be available for the duration of your ownership of a given asset until one of your YouTube Studio Content Manager users accepts or rejects a given proposal.

Proposals are made based on melody matches, matching ISWCs and metadata matches. In order to perform melody matching, we pick one of your Share's existing Sound Recordings to represent your Share. The chosen Sound Recording is indicated in the player. If this melody does not represent your Share, removing your Share from the Sound Recording will result in higher precision proposals and better melody matches.

To view Proposed Sound Recordings from the left menu:

  1. Sign in to your Studio Content Manager.
  2. Select Assets .
  3. Click the title of the asset you want to review.
  4. From the left menu, click Proposed SRs.

To view Proposed Sound Recordings from the Dashboard in the Issues Card:

  1. Sign in to your Studio Content Manager.
  2. Click Potential Sound Recordings.
  3. Select an asset to review.
  4. From the left menu, click Proposed SRs.

To view Proposed Sound Recordings from the search bar:

  1. Sign in to your Studio Content Manager.
  2. Search for a specific Composition Share asset.
  3. Select an asset to review.
  4. From the left menu, click Proposed SRs.

You can review the asset’s metadata and compare melody matches for each asset title to make the following decisions:

  • For proposed Sound Recordings that contain your composition, check the box on the left and accept the proposal.
Note: Accepting the proposal will link your composition share to the sound recording.
  • For proposed Sound Recordings that do not contain your composition, check the box on the left and reject the proposal. You can provide justification for the rejection to help us better improve the precision of proposals.

You can bulk accept or reject proposals by selecting multiple assets at once.

FAQs

Question Answer
Why do I not see a proposed Sound Recording that I would expect to see? Proposals rely on ISWCs so if you do not see a proposal you’re expecting, it is likely because you did not provide one (see "Metadata" tab) or the one provided is incorrect. If you remedy the ISWC, it may take a few days for proposals to show up on the new interface.
How does Melody Matching work? In order to perform melody matching, we pick one of your Share's existing Sound Recordings to represent your Share. The chosen Sound Recording is indicated in the player. If this melody does not represent your share, removing your Share from the Sound Recording will result in higher precision proposals and better melody matches.
How do I submit feedback? For general feedback on user experience, click the "Send feedback" button in CMS, which sends a notification directly to our product team. For specific feedback on proposals, use the feedback box upon rejecting proposals. For anything else, please work with your Partner Manager.
What data sources are driving match proposals? We have integrated external data sources like CISAC and the MLC along with Melody Matching data paired with internal tools leveraging machine learning to make proposals.
What do I do if I don’t agree with a proposal? Please reject the proposal and provide justification as to why this proposal is incorrect.
What if I cannot play a reference? Please report that feedback to your Partner Manager.
