Explore group conversations in Google Messages
You can edit the settings of your group conversations in Google Messages.
- Group conversations: Send an MMS reply to all recipients.
- Mass text: Send an SMS reply to all recipients and get individual replies.
Change how you send group messages
- Open Google Messages .
- Tap your profile photo or icon and then Messages settings and thenAdvanced and thenGroup messaging.
- Choose mass text or group MMS as your default.
Add to or name a group conversation
If your group members all have RCS chats turned on, you can change options for group conversations:
- To add people to a group from within a conversation, tap More More and then Group details and then Add people.
- You can name a group when you create it. Only you can see the group name.
- To rename a group, tap More More and then Group details. Tap the group name and enter the new name. Tap OK.
Check if RCS chat is available
- Open Google Messages .
- Start a new conversation.
- Find contacts with the "RCS" tag.
Tips:
- If you add a contact that doesn't have the "RCS" tag, it creates an MMS chat.
- If your group members have RCS chats turned on, you can find iPhone contacts with the "RCS" tag.
Snooze conversations
- Open Google Messages .
- Touch and hold a conversation.
- At the top of the screen, tap Snooze .
- Select how long you want to snooze the conversation:
- 1 hour
- 8 hours
- 24 hours
- Always
- Tap Snooze .
Remove the snooze of a conversation
- Touch and hold the conversation.
- Tap Snooze .
Remove a user from an RCS conversation
Important: You can't remove a user from SMS or MMS groups.
To remove a participant from the conversation:
- Open Google Messages .
- Tap the RCS conversation.
- At the top right, tap More More and then Group details.
- Scroll to the list of group participants.
- On the right of the participant you want to remove, tap More More and then Remove from group.
