Say hello to Liquid Glass

Our broadest design update ever. This stunning new design across Apple platforms elevates the content users care about most. And it creates a unified design language between platforms — all while maintaining the distinct qualities that make each unique.

And that stunning new material? That’s Liquid Glass, a new dynamic material that combines the optical properties of glass with a sense of fluidity. Liquid Glass refracts content from below it, reflects light from around it, and has a gorgeous lensing effect along its edges.

Apple Intelligence

Tap into the on-device large language model

Built into the core of our operating systems, Apple Intelligence is the personal intelligence system that helps people get things done through features like Writing Tools, Genmoji, and Image Playground.

Any app can tap into the large language model at the core of many Apple Intelligence features through the Foundation Models framework. You can use this framework to power intelligent features in your app with model capabilities, such as text extraction, summarization, and more.

Since the model is on-device, people’s data stays private. The model is readily available, so features you build will work offline. And it’s all available at no cost per request.

App Intents

Core functions throughout the system

With the App Intents framework, people can easily find and use the core functions of your app, even when they’re not in your app.

The App Intents framework deeply integrates your app’s actions and content with system experiences, including Spotlight, Shortcuts, widgets, Control Center, and more.

Now, with the new Spotlight experience for Mac, people can access all the App Intents you’ve created right from Spotlight. And any action in your app’s menu is surfaced in Spotlight automatically, creating a more natural and seamless way to interact with your app from anywhere on the system.

Metal-powered games

Astonishing realism for incredible creativity

With new tools and technologies, there’s never been a better time to bring your next-generation games to Apple’s unified gaming platform.

Metal 4 offers tons of new features that support the most advanced graphics and machine learning technologies. Run inference networks directly in your shaders to compute lighting, materials, and geometry to enable highly realistic visual effects for your games. Use the new MetalFX APIs to take your game’s graphics performance to the next level. And take advantage of the Game Porting Toolkit 3 to bring your games to Apple platforms.

Live Activities

Important information, right now

Live Activities from your iPhone nearby will now appear on your Mac in the menu bar, helping you stay on top of things that are happening in real time—such as a sports game, workout, ride share, or food delivery order.

For apps with frequent content and status updates that go beyond the existing push notification system, Live Activities can be a more flexible way to keep people updated about live events, activities, or tasks over a couple of hours, because in addition to frequently updating data, they offer a way for people to interact with the information.

Video Effects API

Exponential visual storytelling

The Video Effects API exposes many machine-learning-based video processing algorithms, like Motion Blur and Frame Rate Conversion, and Image and Video Super Resolution, to give people who use your video editing app additional ways to tell their unique story. Motion Blur can digitally recreate a motion blur effect without the difficult physical setup. Frame Rate Conversion (FRC) allows video clip retiming, slow motion, and gap filling in jittery clips due to dropped frames. Image Super-Resolution (ISR) and Video Super-Resolution (VSR) support upscaling by up to 4x, delivering sharper details and higher-quality outputs from lower-resolution sources.

Widgets

Timely, elevated information

A widget elevates and displays a small amount of timely, relevant information from your app or game so people can see it at a glance in additional contexts — without requiring them to open your app.

You can add widgets to your Mac desktop or keep them tucked away in Notification Center — and even access widgets from iPhone right on Mac.
