Mie is home to a highly diverse international community. In 2023, 62,561 people live in Mie from oversea countries, and percentage of international residents is 3.56% which ranks 4th in Japan—has grown in recent years to occupy a major role in the prefecture's economy and society.
To ease the transition to life in Japan for new international residents, the prefecture further devotes significant efforts toward education and support in areas such as language, culture and customs. The Mie International Exchange Foundation in Tsu is a center for these outreach programs, offering multilingual information and consultation sessions, workshops, and Japanese language classes, as well as a website with detailed information on various aspects of life in Mie.
