napp-it portable web-gui appliances
napp-it is available in two different editions:
1. napp-it SE (Solaris Edition) for Solaris and OmniOS/Openindiana
This is the napp-it since 2009.You install it via the online wget installer
2. napp-it CS (client/server edition, any OS, multiple servers)
napp-it CS has minimal requiremens. The frontend needs an Apache webserver and Perl,
the backend server service for remote management needs only Perl with ultra low resource demands.
This is the new napp-it since 2024 to extend napp-it SE. You just download the csweb-gui folder (c:/xampp on Windows)
and best for All in One solutions on mainstream operating systems like Linux/Proxmox and Windows
(All in One = Storage Server + Virtualisation Server in one box). Napp-it CS is included in napp-it SE pro complete.
Preferred operating systems for napp-it CS AiO: (beside Free-BSD, Illumos, other Linux or OSX)
1. Proxmox
This is a free Debian based distribution with a commercial support option, perfect virtualiation functions with web-gui
and one of the very few Linux distributions with a maintained OpenZFS out of the box what makes it a perfect barebone NAS too,
where the storage and ZFS features are managed via napp-it cs, see

Why should you use any Linux for VMs and Storage when there is one with everything included out of the box.
2. Windows
You can use a default Windows setup (suggested is 11 Pro or Server) with virtualiation functions based on HyperV.
Windows storage is based on Storage Spaces to pool disks of any size or type with an auto tiering option,
Additionally the filesystem driver for a default OpenZFS is nearly ready and already quite usable what makes Windows a very

A Windows Server (Essentials) adds Active Directory, other servies and superiour SMB performance
up to 10 Gbyte/s with lowest latency or cpu load with rdma capable nics) what makes it perfect for 4k+ video editing
Uninstall:
As napp-it is portable software where install basically means a folder copy, uninstall means to just delete the web-gui folder.
