Great East Japan Earthquake
1. MLIT Response and Measures
Responding to the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism established its disaster headquarters on March 11 and takes every measure for lifesaving and recovery, which includes:
- Rescuing the sufferers, and rendering assistance to them;
- Restoring and reestablishing infrastructure including roads, railways, ports and airports; and
- Accelerating the delivery of relief supplies to the affected areas.

2. Information on Transportation
(1) Overview of Operational Status (as of April 13)
Major Transportation Network in Japan
(a) Expressways
No traffic restriction is imposed due to the disaster, except part of Joban Expressway.
(b) Railways (Shinkansen)
All Shinkansen lines are in operation.
(c) Airports
All airports are open and in operation.
