The Opening of Centrair
Chubu Centrair International Airport (Centrair) opened on Feb.17 2005, one month before the opening of the 2005 World Exposition in Aichi.
The Central or Chubu region is one of the major economic regions in Japan with a population of approximately 22 million, accounting for about 18% of GDP of Japan.
Since numerous world-leading companies and production bases were located in this region, air transport demands for passenger and cargo has been rapidly increasing. With this background, Centrair was built corresponding to strong demands of local people and companies that had been longed for 24-hour operated airport with large cargo space and a runway for long-haul aircraft.
Centrair was founded and managed by Central Japan International Airport Co., Ltd., and 50 % of its stock is owned by a private sector.
International Hub Airport in Japan
Centrair serves as a hub airport in Japan and connects the Chubu region to the world. At Centrair, domestic and international terminals are located in the same building, which allowed passengers to reach easy access to both terminals. Also, many domestic flights are available from Centrair.

Airport access
The Centrair is on an island with the access bridge and can be reached by car or train. It takes about 28minutes by train and 40 minutes by car from the city center of Nagoya to the airport.
From major cities within 60 kilometers of airport, it normally takes an hour or so.
Also, high speed vessels connect between the ports of Tsu and Matsusaka in Mie Prefecture and Centrair .
User-friendly Passenger Terminal Building
As the passenger terminal of Centrair has been constructed less complexity, the domestic and international lobbies are situated on the different floors in the same terminal. The departure lobby is on the 3rd floor and the arrival on the 2nd floor. The concept of universal design was introduced throughout the terminal to realize user-friendly airport for all, regardless of age or physical ability.
Attractive Commercial Facilities and Spectacular Scenes from Sky Deck
On the 4th floor of the terminal, there are many famous restaurants and popular shops.
Centrair welcomes not only passengers but also visitors who just come and enjoy the day at the airport.
The 300-meter long observation deck called "Sky Deck" is one of the most popular places in the airport site, and you can observe airplanes nearby.
A public bath is also located on the 4th floor. You can enjoy watching airplanes take-offs and landings while relaxing in a fine view bath.
Various Services
Centrair provides foreign visitors to Japan with tourist information, such as tourist route in the Chubu Region called Shoryu-do, Dragon-rise Region, covering Aichi, Shizuoka, Gifu, Mie, Fukui, Ishikawa, Toyama, Nagano and Shiga Prefecture, where you can find abundant attractive tourism resources everywhere.
Centrair accepts business jet aircraft. As a 24-hour operated airport, Centrair can address urgent flights any time day or night. Also, maintenance and repair can be carried out in the special hanger.

Centrair is the only airport in Japan that can handle both Sea & Air freight of extra-large cargo. Centrair Airport Island has a port, and extra-large cargo such as aircraft parts are being shipped to various countries from there.
Centrair is the only airport in Japan that has been designated as a general bonded area. This leads to the simplified customs procedures, and enables to manufacture and assemble the goods within that area using both foreign and domestic parts, and then pack and directly export the finished products from there.
