This 450ドル iPad setup is a better buy than most Chromebooks, here’s why
Next year, Apple will be introducing an even more affordable MacBook model to better compete with Chromebooks. It’s expected to come in around 699,ドル offer an A18 Pro chip, and a 13-inch LCD display. While that’s likely going to be an excellent offering, there’s the simple fact that a lot of people buying Chromebooks are targeting even cheaper price points than that. Luckily, Apple already has an excellent solution for some of these potential: the iPad, in pairing with a keyboard setup of your choosing. more...

Apple CEO Tim Cook isn't retiring in 2026
An earlier report suggested that Tim Cook could announce his retirement in 2026 before WWDC, and while succession plans are underway, the report is being called false.Apple CEO Tim Cook isn't retiring just yetWhen the Financial Times made the claim that Apple CEO Tim Cook would announce the succession plan to be replaced by John Ternus in early 2026, the AppleInsider team was skeptical at best. It was clear Cook and many others in the executive team could retire in the next five years, but Cook's departure seems the furthest out.According to the Power On newsletter, the report suggesting a transition would be announced is outright incorrect. Can your Mac run macOS 26 Tahoe? Here’s every compatible model
Macworld Wondering which versions of macOS your Mac can run? We’ve put together a macOS compatibility checker that will show you what Macs the different versions of macOS and Mac OS X support, so you can tell what version you should be running on your Mac. Latest macOS version: Tahoe (macOS 26), released November 15, 2025 Supports: All M-series Macs and most Intel Macs from 2019 onward Security-supported versions: MacOS Sequoia (15), Sonoma (14), and Ventura (13) still get critical security updates. Which version of macOS can my Mac run? Apple releases a new version of the Mac operating system every year—but the newest version of the Mac operating system does not support every Mac. Each year more and more Macs fall off the compatibility list and are unable to be updated to take advantage of the latest features. The latest version, macOS 26 Tahoe, arrived on September 15, 2025, it can run on all M-series Macs and the last generation of Intel-powered Macs from 2019, but the older Macs don’t get all the new features. Read on to find out exactly which Macs are supported by each version of the Mac operating system. For advice about installing macOS read: How to install macOS on your Mac and read our guide to every version of macOS released to find out about the latest version. macOS 26 Tahoe compatibility Apple There were fears that macOS Tahoe would not support any Intel-powered Macs – luckily this isn’t the case, but Apple has confirmed this will be the last version of macOS to support Macs that don’t run on Apple’s own silicon. Apple lists the following Macs as compatible with macOS 26 Tahoe and the Apple Intelligence-powered features: M-series Macs that run Tahoe MacBook Pro (M1 and later) MacBook Air (M1 and later) iMac (M1 and later) Mac mini (M1 and later) Mac Studio (M1 and later) Mac Pro (M1 and later) Intel Macs that run Tahoe These are the Intel Macs that run macOS Tahoe (but don’t support Apple Intelligence): MacBook Pro (Intel, 13‐inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports) MacBook Pro (Intel, 16‐inch, 2019) Mac Pro (Intel, 2019) iMac (Intel, mid 2020) Macs that don’t run Tahoe The following Macs that were supported by 2024’s macOS Sequoia, and any that are older than these, are not able to run Tahoe: iMac (Intel, 2019) iMac Pro (Intel, 2017) Mac mini (Intel, 2018) MacBook Pro (Intel, 2018) macOS 15 Sequoia compatibility Which Macs run Sequoia? All the M-series Macs!Apple Sequoia (macOS 15) became available on Tuesday, September 16, 2024. The software was regularly updated prior to the introduction of Tahoe, but now that Tahoe is here Sequoia will only get security updates when required. e.g. Sequoia 15.7 on September 15, 2025. M-series Macs that run Sequoia All M-series Macs can support Sequoia (and Apple Intelligence features), including: MacBook Air (M1 and later) MacBook Pro (M1 and later) iMac (M1 and later) Mac Pro (M1 and later) Mac Studio (M1 and later) Mac mini (M1 and later) Intel Macs that run Sequoia The following Intel Macs can run Sequoia. None of these models can support the Apple Intelligence features though. iMac (Intel, 2019 and August 2020) Mac Pro (Intel, 2019) iMac Pro (Intel, 2017) MacBook Air (Intel, March 2020) Mac mini (Intel, 2018) MacBook Pro (Intel, 2018, 2019 and May 2020) Macs that don’t run Sequoia The following Macs that were supported by 2023’s macOS Sonoma, and any that are older than these, are not able to run Sequoia: MacBook Air (Intel, 2019) MacBook Air (Intel, 2018) For more information read: Can my Mac run Sequoia? macOS 14 Sonoma compatibility macOS Sonoma arrived in 2023IDG macOS 14 Sonoma became available on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. Apple is still issuing security updates for Sonoma, the most recent was 14.8 on September 15, 2025. Macs that run Sonoma iMac from 2019 Mac Pro from 2019 iMac Pro from 2017 Mac Studio from 2022 MacBook Air from 2018 Mac mini from 2018 MacBook Pro from 2018 For more information read: Can my Mac run Sonoma? Can I install an older OS on my Mac? Officially, the operating system that was available on your Mac at the time that you bought it is the oldest version of macOS that can run on that Mac. It’s likely that an older OS won’t include the necessary drivers for the hardware on newer Macs. For this reason, it is unlikely that you will be able to install an older version of macOS on a new Mac—but you can take a look at how to install old versions of macOS or OS X for other Macs. Owners of Macs with M-series chips (sometimes referred to as Apple Silicon) won’t be able to run older versions of macOS that weren’t designed for Apple Silicon Macs which use a different architecture, known as ARM, instead of X-86. But it may not just be a case of wanting to know if your Mac can run the newest operating system. You might also want to know if it is possible to downgrade your Mac to an older version of macOS and need to know the oldest version of macOS you can use. You’ll also find that information below. You can also see a complete list of all the different versions of macOS and Mac OS X. Not sure which Mac you own? Check our article about how to identify your Mac. Note: In each case, the year referenced below is the year that Mac was first introduced–you could for example have bought a 2016 MacBook in early 2017, but it’s still the 2016 MacBook. macOS 13 Ventura compatibility Apple Apple released macOS 13 Ventura to the public on October 24, 2022. Apple is still issuing security updates for Ventura, the most recent was 13.7.8 in August 2025, this may be the last Ventura update now Tahoe is here, as Apple tends to only support the past two versions with security updates. Macs that run Ventura MacBook models from 2017 or later MacBook Air models from 2018 or later MacBook Pro models from 2017 or later Mac mini models from 2018 or later iMac models from 2017 or later iMac Pro (all models) Mac Pro models from 2019 or later Mac Studio (all models) For more information read: Can my Mac run Ventura? macOS 12 Monterey compatibility Apple macOS 12 Monterey was made available to download on October 15, 2021 (latest version 12.7.6 in July 2024). Apple is no longer issuing security updates for Monterey. Macs that run macOS Monterey MacBook models from early 2016 or later MacBook Air models from early 2015 or later MacBook Pro models from early 2015 or later Mac mini models from 2014 or later iMac from 2015 or later iMac Pro (2017 and later) Mac Pro models from late 2013 and later Mac Studio macOS 11 Big Sur compatibility Apple macOS 11 Big Sur was the version of macOS that arrived on November 12, 2020 (latest version 11.7.10 in September 2023). Apple is no longer issuing security updates for Big Sur. Macs that can run macOS Big Sur MacBook models from early 2015 or later MacBook Air models from 2013 or later MacBook Pro models from 2013 or later Mac mini models from 2014 or later iMac from 2014 or later iMac Pro (all models) Mac Pro models from 2013 and 2019 macOS 10.15 Catalina compatibility Catalina arrived in October 2019 (latest version 10.15.7 in July 2022). 32-inch iMac Pro: What you need to know about the rumors
Macworld New MacBook with A19 Pro: In summary Rumors have circulated in recent years that Apple has a large iMac in the works, but the company has never settled on whether to actually ship it. Reports stated that the large iMac could ship in 2025. The large iMac has been rumored to sport a display that’s an upgrade from the LED monitor in the standard iMac. Prior to March 2022, Apple sold two sizes of its iMac desktop computer. The smaller-screened model was more suited to home users due to its less powerful processor, while the larger 27-inch model, with more speed, higher-end features, and high-res display, was meant to be powerful enough for more demanding users. When Apple introduced the 24-inch iMac in 2021 with a colorful redesign and M1 chip, it was the beginning of the end for the high-end version. First Apple discontinued the iMac Pro, and a year later introduced the Mac Studio with the 27-inch Studio Display in March 2022, and discontinued the 27-inch iMac at the same time. But the story doesn’t end there. Ever since it was retired, there have been rumors that Apple has plans to introduce a new version of the iMac Pro that would also mark the return of the 27-inch iMac–although it could have an even bigger screen, perhaps 32-inches! In this article, we’ll evaluate the reports that suggest that Apple could revive the old brand with a brand-new iMac Pro. Read on to find out when it could launch and what features it might offer. Is there even a need for a new iMac Pro now the Mac Studio has arrived? We think there will always be room for a pro desktop with a large screen built in. See: How the iMac Pro could come out of retirement to dominate the desktop. iMac Pro: Will it happen? The rumors that Apple would revive the iMac Pro have been circulating for years. Back in October 2021, in a tweet that is no longer online, retired Apple leaker Dylan made predictions about an iMac Pro. Clearly, Dylan was incorrect about the timing of his prediction, but even if we discount him, others have also claimed that Apple is working on a new iMac Pro. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo made predictions about a new iMac Pro back in March 2022. Suggesting that Apple would ship an iMac Pro in 2023. However, that prediction came just before Apple introduced the Mac Studio and removed the 27-inch iMac from the lineup. [Updated]2023: Mac Pro, iMac Pro and Mac mini https://t.co/NiloxXy0jv— 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) March 11, 2022 Kuo had been quiet about the new iMac, until October 18, 2023, when he tweeted that a 32-inch iMac could arrive in 2025. New iMac prediction update:1. 24-inch iMac refresh in 2024.2. Higher-end 32-inch mini LED display iMac in 2025. https://t.co/l7jzEecwZi— 郭明錤 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) October 17, 2023 It’s not only Kuo who sees a larger iMac in Apple’s future. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman wrote in April 2022 (after the launch of the Mac Studio): "For those asking, I still think an iMac Pro is coming. It just won’t be anytime soon." In June 2023, Gurman mentioned the larger iMac again. He claimed that Apple "is also conducting early work on an iMac with a screen over 30 inches." And towards the end of October 2023, Gurman wrote that the larger iMac, although "tabled" a while back "due to cost concerns", was never "canceled". Predicting: "This larger model is still poised to follow the 24-inch one, coming in either late 2024 or 2025." There is evidence that development was even at the prototype stage before being put on hold: In July 2022, a report on MacRumors, based on information shared by a source to a forum member (so we can’t vouch for its accuracy) suggested that "Apple prototyped at least three larger iMac models with Apple silicon chips" back in 2021. If these reports are true, Apple has been working on a replacement for the 27-inch iMac (and iMac Pro) for some time, and yet nothing has materialized. It seems that there are difficulties that are leading to delays. In December 2022, Gurman indicated that the iMac Pro had been delayed, citing (as with the new Mac Pro) high development costs and difficulties engineering chips as the cause of the delay. In his first newsletter of 2023, Gurman also wrote that the iMac Pro "has been on and off Apple’s road map", and that "I would be surprised at this point if it arrives in 2023". iMac Pro: Release date 2025, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and analyst Mink Chi Kuo Kuo’s tweet that Apple will ship a "Higher-end 32-inch mini LED display iMac in 2025," indicates that this could be the year the new, larger iMac finally arrives. When Gurman referred to the big iMac in July 2023, he claimed that the 32-inch iMac has entered the early testing phase of development and suggested that while it could launch in late 2024, we could be waiting until 2025. In an October 2023 newsletter, Gurman reiterated this, writing: "This larger model is still poised to follow the 24-inch one, coming in either late 2024 or 2025." If the new 27-inch iMac (or larger) arrives in 2025, that will be three years after the equivalent model was discontinued. That’s a long hiatus. However, the end of 2025 is fast approaching, and Apple doesn’t usually release new Macs in December. No reports have been made as to the status of this iMac. iMac Pro: Design and colors A four-year-old report said the iac Pro could have a similar design to the current iMac. No color options have been reported. In a July 31, 2021 newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggested that the new iMac Pro will have "a similar design to the current M1 iMac." It makes sense that the iMac Pro will borrow some of its design inspiration from the 24-inch iMac. Apple offers the 24-inch iMac in several color choices, but there haven’t been reports on what color choices Apple will use for the iMac Pro. To create a differentiation between the consumer and pro levels, Apple may decide on different color choices, as with the iPhone Pro, or stick with the traditional shades. The next large iMac Pro will probably look nothing like the current 27-inch model (right) and more like the 24-inch iMac (left).Apple Another difference we could see on the larger iMac is dark bezels rather than a white border around the screen. There may also be a notch, as there is with the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. This could allow Apple to extend the height of the screen as it has with these models. We’d also like to see the iMac Pro lose some of its "chin." Based on teardowns of the iMac and the Studio Display, and the low power and heat requirements of Apple silicon, a chinless iMac Pro could be possible. iMac Pro: Display size 27- or 32-inches have been reported Upgrade over the current LED display in the iMac Display analyst Ross Young and others had stated that the iMac Pro will have a 27-inch display, the same as the predecessor, which is a little disappointing. However, in June 2023, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman indicated that he had information suggesting that Apple is developing an iMac with a screen larger than 30 inches. He then elaborated further a few weeks later, suggesting that a 32-inch iMac is reportedly in testing. In October 2023, he reiterated that the new iMac Pro "will have a 32-inch display, making it the biggest iMac in Apple’s history." Currently, the 32-inch Pro Display XDR is Apple’s largest display. Kuo agrees that this new, larger iMac could have a 32-inch display, as per his October tweet. Neither Kuo nor Gurman expands on the screen specs, but it will presumably have ProMotion and XDR (Extreme Dynamic Range). A larger display would certainly make the iMac Pro more attractive to potential buyers. Next to the 24-inch iMac, with its 4.5K display (4480 by 2520 pixels), the 27-inch iMac only looks slightly more impressive with its 5K display (5120 by 2880 pixels). But it’s not only the 24-inch iMac that the iMac Pro will be compared to. The 27-inch screen also doesn’t compare particularly favorably with many modern displays that are larger than 30 inches (including the 32-inch, 6K Apple Pro Display XDR). Apple’s Pro Display XDR is a 32-inch 6K display.IDG Gurman has previously predicted that the 27-inch iMac could see its display size increase by a similar amount to the 24-inch iMac: "I absolutely still believe that a larger, redesigned iMac to replace the Intel 27-inch models is en route. Apple increasing the screen size of the smaller model from 21.5 inches to 24 inches seems to indicate that the 27-inch model could see a size increase as well," he wrote in July 2021. A larger display could be possible without increasing the size of the iMac significantly. The 27-inch iMac measured 25.6 inches wide, 20.3 inches tall, and 8 inches deep, and Apple’s new design helps make the 24-inch iMac smaller than even the 21.5-inch iMac it replaced (21.5 by 18.1 by 5.8 inches versus 20.8 by 17.7 by 6.9 inches). Apple could also incorporate a notch into the top of the screen to accommodate the FaceTime camera, thereby reducing the size of the bezel at the top of the screen. The new iMac Pro wouldn’t actually need to be as big as the Pro Display XDR to offer a 6K display. A 30-inch display with smaller bezels could still accommodate the 6016 by 3384 pixels for Retina 6K resolution and a 6K iMac. In an October 2024 post on X, Kuo stated that the new iMac will have a 32-inch mini LED display, which would be an upgrade over the LED display used in the 24-inch iMac. To get an idea of what we could expect with the display in the larger iMac if Apple takes it beyond the Studio Display, we can look at how it compares to Apple’s Pro Display XDR. Pro Display XDR: 6K Retina display (6016-by-3384 resolution), 1000 nits (XDR) or 500 nits (SDR) brightness, wide color (P3), True Tone Studio Display: 5K Retina display (5120-by-,880 resolution), 600 nits, wide color (P3), True Tone The upcoming larger iMac is likely to have smaller bezels than the 27-inch iMac and iMac Pro, which could help the display reach a higher pixel density without having to make the display much bigger. A rumor by Ross Young in October 2021 and a follow-up report in December 2021 claimed that Apple would bring a Liquid Retina XDR display with "around 1,000 zones and over 4,000 mini-LEDs" to the iMac. That would be fewer than the 10,000 mini-LEDs in the iPad and the 8,000 mini-LEDs in the MacBook Pro, though it would likely be visually indistinguishable due to the size and viewing distance. The 27-inch iMac used to ship with standard glass on the front of the display, but (for 300ドル) Apple offered a nano-texture glass that provided a matte-like finish and did a good job of cutting down glare. Apple will probably continue to offer this with the new iMac Pro. As you can see above, it dramatically cuts down on the gloss and glare. The 27-inch iMac has a nano-texture glass option (right) that does a better job of resisting glare and reflections.IDG iMac Pro: CPU and GPU The M5 Pro and Max are expected in the MacBook Pro in early 2026, but no reports have been made about the iMac Pro. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported back in January 2022 that the iMac Pro would have "similar chips to the M1 Pro and M1 Max processors inside of the MacBook Pro." That rumor came before the launch of the Mac Studio, which did ship with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, so it seems likely that Gurman’s source was referring to that machine. With the M5, M4 Pro, and M4 Max already on the market, we can get some idea of what to expect from a larger iMac. It could feature the M4 Pro, which offers a 12- or 14-core CPU and 16- or 20-core GPU. Will this iMac only offer the M4 Pro, or will it offer the M4 Max too? It’s unclear, but the expectation is that Apple will differentiate the Mac Studio and Mac Pro from the iMac Pro by offering just the M4 Pro with that model, as it does with the Mac mini. The M4 Max offers a 14- or 16-core CPU and 32- or 40-core GPU. Apple is expected to release the M5 Pro and M5 Ma MacBook Pro in the first half of 2026. Apple could forego the M4 Pro and Max and go with M5 versions instead, but no reports have been made regarding this. In April 2024, Gurman reported that the M4 chip rollout involved "iMacs." Apple released only the M4 24-inch iMac. iMac Pro: RAM The standard configuration will follow whatever is planned for the M-series Pro and Max chips The M4 Pro can support up to 48GB of unified memory (up from 36GB) while the M4 Max can support up to 128GB. The 27-inch iMac did support up to 128GB RAM, so that’s one reason why the new iMac Pro may support the M4 Max. The M4 Pro comes standard with 24GB unified memory; the M4 Max comes with 36GB as standard (previously 32GB). Other configurations include 48GB, 64GB, and 128GB. Apple is going to be releasing the M5 Pro and Max chips soon, but those chips are expected to have the same base RAM configurations as the M4 Pro and Max. One limitation of Apple’s RAM is that it will not be user-upgradable. The 27-inch iMac had RAM slots that were user-accessible. With Apple silicon, RAM (Apple calls it unified memory) is built into the SoC, so it is not user-upgradable. iMac Pro: Storage Apple typically sets the base SSD at 512GB or 1TB for its pro Macs. An October 2021 tweet from the now-retired account from "Dylan" suggested that there will be 512GB storage as standard with the new iMac (Pro). That would be an improvement on the 256GB offered by the entry-level 27-inch iMac prior to it being retired. It would follow the pattern of the 16-inch MacBook Pro, which has 512GB and 1TB options for the standard machines (and 8TB as a build-to-order option). iMac Pro: Ports and expansion Thunderbolt 5 is currently implemented in pro Macs. The 24-inch iMac comes with four Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports, and a headphone jack (the base 1,299ドル iMac has only two Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports). After Apple launched the MacBook Pro with HDMI and an SDXC card slot, rumors suggested the iMac would follow suit. The thin enclosure could be an issue, but Apple solved that issue on the 24-inch model by putting the headphone jack on the side. Apple could position the SD slot similarly to avoid making the iMac thicker. Thunderbolt 5 is now on the M4 Pro/Max MacBook Pro, so this would be included in an iMac Pro. Thunderbolt 5 offers double the bandwidth at 80 Gbps. Learn more about Thunderbolt 5. The iMac power adapter has an< ethernet port. Apple could do the same with an iMac Pro.Foundry For all but the entry-level 24-inch iMac, Apple placed the ethernet port in the power adapter brick. The same power adapter is likely to be used for the larger iMac as well. iMac Pro: Other features With the M4 iMac, Apple upgraded the camera to a 12-megapixel FaceTime camera with Center Stage support. It replaced the 1080p camera in the previous iMac. Apple would use the same 12MP camera in an iMac Pro. We’d like to see the camera also support Face ID. True Depth references were spotted in macOS Big Sur, indicating that this was something Apple had looked at. However, no Mac has yet arrived with support for Face ID. If it doesn’t have Face ID, the new iMac will have Touch ID built into the keyboard, that being offered with the 24-inch iMac and the Touch ID keyboards. Read: When will Face ID come to Mac? iMac Pro: Price As for the price, it will likely fall in line with the pricing of the 27-inch iMac, which started at 1,799,ドル since Apple kept similar pricing to the 21.5-inch iMac when it launched the 24-inch model. It’s also possible that the price will be a bit higher, perhaps starting at over 2,000,ドル which would be more in line with Apple’s price increase for the higher-end MacBook Pro. The price is likely to be adjusted outside the U.S. in line with the exchange rates.

Plastic webcam covers—especially of the sliding kind—boomed in popularity sometime in the 2010s as a low-tech way to keep hackers from eavesdropping on compromised machines. The concern felt justified at the time. But by 2020, Apple was beginning to issue warnings that those covers aren’t actually needed and can even damage a MacBook’s display. For this Security Bite, let’s set the tin-foil hats aside and talk about why webcam covers don’t meaningfully improve privacy, can cause features like True Tone to not work properly, and are far more likely to damage your screen than stop someone from spying on you. more...

iOS 27 Will Reportedly Have Two Key Upgrades
iOS 27 will reportedly have two major elements: quality improvements and new AI features. In his Power On newsletter today, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that iOS 27 will be similar to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, in the sense that Apple is focused on improving "quality and underlying performance" over adding new features. Gurman said there is one exception to this rule, though, as he expects there to be new AI features. He said that iOS 27 will extend artificial intelligence to additional Apple apps, and he reiterated that there will be an Apple Health+ subscription service that offers personalized health recommendations and more. He said this focus on improved quality over new features also applies to macOS 27. The first betas of iOS 27, macOS 27, and other corresponding updates should be released shortly after Apple's annual developers conference WWDC next June. Gurman: Tim Cook Likely to Remain Apple CEO Until at Least Mid-2026
Earlier this month, the Financial Times reported that Apple is preparing for Tim Cook to step down as CEO of the company "as soon as next year." While the report said that Apple is unlikely to name a new CEO before its next earnings report in late January, it went on to explain that an announcement early in the year would allow for a smooth leadership transition, ahead of Apple's annual developers conference WWDC in June and iPhone event in September. However, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said he would be "shocked" if Cook steps down between late January and June next year. "Based on everything I've learned in recent weeks, I don't believe a departure by the middle of next year is likely," said Gurman, in his Power On newsletter today. "In fact, I would be shocked if Cook steps down in the time frame outlined by the FT." There have been "few signs internally" that Cook is about to step down, he added. Gurman described the Financial Times report as "premature" and "simply false." Apple's Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, John Ternus, is widely viewed as Cook's most likely successor whenever the time comes. Cook, who turned 65 this year, has been Apple's CEO since August 2011. Tags: Mark Gurman, Tim CookThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Top Stories: Tim Cook's 2026 Exit?, Mac Pro on Hold, and More
2025 is rapidly drawing to a close, but this week still saw some interesting news in the world of Apple, led by a report claiming that Tim Cook's retirement as Apple CEO might not be too far away. This week also saw word that the future of the Mac Pro appears to be in question, while Apple continues to work on the upcoming iOS 26.2 update and related releases. Black Friday is also right around the corner now with lots of deals already available, so read on below for details on these stories and more! Top Stories Report: Tim Cook to Step Down as Apple CEO 'as Soon as Next Year' Apple is preparing for Tim Cook to step down as CEO of the company "as soon as next year," according to the Financial Times. The company's board of directors and senior executives "recently intensified preparations for Cook to hand over the reins," the report said, with Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, John Ternus, viewed as Cook's most likely successor. Cook will likely transition to a chairman role with Apple, but his level of influence in a post-CEO role remains to be seen. Arthur Levinson, the current chairman of Apple's board of directors, is 75 years old and prohibited from being re-elected under Apple's corporate governance policy unless an exception is made. Word of Cook's impending retirement comes as former Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams officially retired last week after spending the past few months winding down his responsibilities and handing them off other executives. Mac Pro Reportedly on 'Back Burner' and 'Largely Written Off' at Apple Apple's high-end Mac Pro desktop computer is currently "on the back burner," according to the latest word from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In his Power On newsletter this week, Gurman said he heard that Apple has "largely written off" the Mac Pro, with the sentiment inside the company being that the Mac Studio represents the present and future of Apple's pro desktop computing. Apple is working on a high-end M5 Ultra chip, but Gurman said the company is currently "only" focused on a new Mac Studio with that chip, which leads him to believe that the Mac Pro "won't be updated in 2026 in a significant way." Apple Black Friday Deals Available Now on AirPods, iPads, Accessories, and More Holiday shopping deals continue to ramp up ahead of Black Friday, with great prices available now on AirPods, AirTag, Apple Watch, Macs, iPads, and more. Apple has announced details on its own Black Friday event with bonus gift cards available with the purchase of many Apple products, but better straight-cash discounts are typically available from other retailers. In addition to Apple's own products, we're seeing great early Black Friday deals from Samsung, Sony, Walmart, Adobe, Nomad, Sonos, and more. Everything New in iOS 26.2 Beta 3 Apple is continuing to work on iOS 26.2 and related updates, with public releases likely coming in mid-December. With the third developer beta of iOS 26.2 seeded this week, we saw a number of changes and improvements, including new AirDrop functionality, a new API to allow third-party apps to tap into Hypertension Notifications, and the ability for users in Japan to set an alternative voice assistant app to be activated using the iPhone's side button traditionally used for Siri. Apple is also continuing to work on iPad multitasking, with a new tweak to add drag-and-drop functionality to the revived Slide Over feature. iPhone Pocket Now Available to Order, But Rapidly Selling Out Apple recently teamed up with Japanese fashion brand ISSEY MIYAKE to create the iPhone Pocket, a limited-edition knitted accessory designed to carry an iPhone. The accessory became available to order on Apple's online store last week Friday in the United States, France, China, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the United Kingdom, but it sold out within hours in the United States, and supplies quickly began running short in other countries as well. iPhone 17 vs. iPhone 16 Wi-Fi Speeds: New Study Reveals the Winner A new study has revealed that the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air achieve significantly faster average Wi-Fi speeds compared to the iPhone 16 series, thanks to Apple's custom-designed N1 chip. The study by Ookla, the company behind the popular Speedtest website and app, found the N1 chip to be a "substantial upgrade," with up to 40% faster average download and upload speeds compared to Broadcom's Wi-Fi chip in the iPhone 16 series. Ookla found that the N1 chip "lifts the floor" for Wi-Fi performance, more than "raising the ceiling." Based on the results, Ookla said the N1 chip often delivers more consistent performance in challenging Wi-Fi conditions. iOS 26.2 Will Bring 10+ New Features to Your iPhone
Apple is testing iOS 26.2, a new version of iOS 26 that’s going to come out right around mid-December. iOS 26.2 is going to bring big changes to iPhone users in Japan, but there are also quite a few feature tweaks available for everyone. We’ve rounded up all of the new features your ‌iPhone‌ will get in iOS 26.2. Reminders In the Reminders app, there’s a new option to have an alarm go off when a reminder is due. Setting up an alarm can be done by toggling on the "Urgent" option when creating a reminder. When a Reminder alarm activates, it displays a snooze option or a slide to stop option. If you snooze it, it will show a countdown on the Lock Screen that includes an option to complete the reminder or reschedule it. Apple distinguishes Reminders alarms from standard alarms with a new blue color. Apple provides a splash screen letting users know about the feature, plus a small banner that shows up when you go to add a new entry in the Reminders app after updating to iOS 26.2. Lock Screen There is a Liquid Glass slider on the Lock Screen that lets you customize the appearance of the clock. When using the "Glass" option, you can use the slider to make the time look almost entirely clear, or give it a more frosted look. There continues to be a separate Solid toggle that turns off the Liquid Glass appearance for the clock entirely if you want to opt for a much more opaque design, and you can also still use the color options for the clock. Liquid Glass Settings When using the new Liquid Glass "Tinted" option that reduces transparency, there’s a warning that the Tinted option cannot be used in tandem with the Reduce Transparency and Increase Contrast Accessibility settings. Turning on Tinted mode is able to turn off Reduce Transparency and Increase Contrast automatically. In the prior betas, there was no option to turn on Tinted mode without turning off these features manually. AirDrop Apple added new AirDrop functionality, providing a way for two people to share files temporarily without having to add one another as contacts. iOS 26.2 includes an option to generate a one-time AirDrop code, which can then be shared with someone who is not in your contacts list. The code allows file exchanges over AirDrop for a 30-day period. People you have shared a one-time code with can be managed by opening up the Settings app, selecting the General section, choosing AirDrop, and tapping on "Manage Known AirDrop Contacts." Apple Music Apple Music now supports offline lyrics, so you can see a song’s lyrics when not connected to Wi-Fi or cellular. Sleep Score With iOS 26.2 and watchOS 26.2, Apple has adjusted the ranges for the Sleep Score feature that it introduced earlier this year. The new Sleep Score numbers better match how people might be feeling after a night of sleep. These are the new scores: Very Low - 0–40 (previously 0–29) Low - 41–60 (previously 30–49) OK - 61–80 (previously 50–69) High - 81–95 (previously 70–89) Very High - 96–100 (previously 90–100) The "Very High" rank used to be "Excellent," but Apple changed the name to be more in line with the other labels. Sleep Scores are available on all Apple Watch models compatible with watchOS 26.2 and can be found in the Health app on the ‌iPhone‌. Apple designed Sleep Score to provide an overall sense of sleep patterns, so users can identify habits that might impact their sleep. Sleep Score takes into account sleep duration, bedtime, and interruptions to assign a nightly score that represents sleep quality. Duration is worth 50 points, bedtime is worth 30, and interruptions (times woken up in the night) are worth 20, for a total of 100 possible points each night. Podcasts The Podcasts app adds support for three new features, including automatically created chapters, options to see mentions of other podcasts from the transcript and the player, and access to links mentioned in a podcast on the episode page. Passwords In the Settings section of the Passwords app, there’s an option to manage websites where passwords are not saved when signing in. AirPods Live Translation for EU iOS 26.2 expands AirPods Live Translation to the European Union. Apple had to delay the feature in the EU to complete the engineering work needed to comply with the requirements of the Digital Markets Act. AirPods Live Translation works with the AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods 4 with ANC. It is available in English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional Mandarin), Japanese, and Korean at the current time. Freeform The Freeform app now supports Tables. Weather There is code suggesting that the Weather app now supports relative time for alerts like "next Friday," or "next Tuesday" in reference to upcoming rain or weather conditions. Apple News Apple updated the design of Apple News, adding quick access top buttons for categories like sports, puzzles, politics, business, and food. There’s also a dedicated tab for Following, which has been decoupled from the search interface. Flash for Alerts The Flash for Alerts option in the Accessibility section of the Settings app now allows users to have the screen flash. Previously, this setting was limited to the LED on the back of the ‌iPhone‌. Users can swap to the screen flash or have both flash at the same time when notifications come in. Enhanced Safety Alerts In the Notifications section of the Settings app, there’s an Enhanced Safety Alerts section for managing earthquake alerts, imminent threat alerts, and activating improved alert delivery, a feature that uses location to improve the reliability of alerts. Measure App Apple’s Measure app now features a Liquid Glass design for the level, with two Liquid Glass bubbles instead of white circles. Games App There’s now an option to sort games in the Games app Library by size, in addition to Name and Recent. The Games app also supports navigation with a controller and real-time updates to challenge scores during gameplay. CarPlay The CarPlay now app supports disabling pinned messages in the Messages app for drivers who prefer the classic Messages view that was available before iOS 26.2. Menu Animations For pop-out menus that expand from a corner button, there’s a quicker, bouncier animation that looks like the animation that Apple showed off at WWDC. The Liquid Glass animation in iOS 26.2 beta 2 is amazing, feels like what was shown off at WWDC pic.twitter.com/J6YruZz4cR— Aaron (@aaronp613) November 12, 2025 Privacy When you access your Apple Account for the first time after installing iOS 26.2, you’ll see an alert letting you know that Apple’s privacy information for Apple Accounts has been updated to better explain how personal information is collected and used by Apple. iPhone Changes in Japan Siri Replacement Apple is laying the groundwork for a new option that will let ‌iPhone‌ users in Japan choose a different default voice assistant. A press and hold gesture on the Side Button only activates ‌Siri‌ in the current version of ‌iOS 26‌, but there are multiple references to new Side Button behavior in the beta. ‌iPhone‌ users in Japan will be able to select a new voice-based conversation app to activate with the Side Button, allowing alternative assistants like Gemini or Alexa to be used on the ‌iPhone‌. Developer documentation confirms that it will only be available for Japanese Apple Accounts owned by people living in Japan. Search Engine Choice After installing iOS 26.2, ‌iPhone‌ users in Japan will be prompted to select a preferred search engine. Options include Bing, Google, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo Japan, or Ecosia, the same options available globally in the Safari settings. In most other countries, Google is the default search engine and there is no prompt to choose a different option when the ‌‌iPhone‌‌ first starts up. While ‌‌iPhone‌‌ users outside of Japan can choose one of the other options, doing so requires going into the Safari section of the Settings app to make a change. Third Party App Stores iOS 26.2 will allow ‌iPhone‌ users in Japan to install alternative app marketplaces, similar to the European Union. Texas App Store Changes With iOS 26.2, Apple is adding tools for developers that will help them comply with the App Store Accountability Act that goes into effect in Texas in 2026. Apple users in Texas will need to confirm whether they are 18 years or older when creating an Apple Account, and parents will need to provide consent for their children’s ‌App Store‌ downloads and in-app transactions. Apple will share user age range information with developers, and developers will need to implement systems for notifying parents about significant app changes and allowing parents to revoke a child’s access to an app at any time. Bonus: iPadOS 26.2 Multitasking In the iPadOS 26.2, Apple is expanding on the updated multitasking that it introduced in iPadOS 26.1. There’s now a option to drag and drop apps from the App Library, Dock, and Spotlight into Slide Over and tiled views, restoring some functionality that was removed in the iPadOS 18 to iPadOS 26 transition. Compatibility iOS 26.2 is available on all iPhones that support ‌iOS 26‌. Release Date We’re expecting Apple to release iOS 26.2 in December, sometime between December 9 and December 16.Related Roundups: iOS 26, iPadOS 26Related Forum: iOS 26This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

iPad Air 2026: All the Rumors
Several iPads are slated to get updates in 2026, including the iPad Air, low-cost iPad, and iPad mini. The ‌iPad Air‌ could be updated early in the year, sometime around the March or April timeframe. We've heard a limited amount about the new tablet, but it sounds like there won't be a major overhaul, with Apple primarily focusing on internals. Design and Display No design changes are rumored for the ‌iPad Air‌, so we can expect the same 11-inch and 13-inch size options. The ‌iPad Air‌ is thicker and heavier than the iPad Pro, and it uses a standard LED display instead of OLED technology. The ‌iPad Air‌ will eventually be upgraded to OLED, but for now, the higher-end display technology will remain limited to the ‌iPad Pro‌. The ‌iPad Air‌ also doesn't support ProMotion, and there's no sign that Apple is planning to update its middle-tier tablet with the functionality. The ‌iPad Air‌ will continue to feature USB-C, a Touch ID top button, and the same front and rear camera options. It's possible there will be a new color option, but it's not guaranteed with a minor refresh. No new accessories are rumored, and it will continue to work with the Magic Keyboard and the Apple Pencil Pro. M4 Chip Apple has been updating the ‌iPad Air‌ with an M-series chip that's a generation behind the chip in the ‌iPad Pro‌. Since the ‌iPad Pro‌ was updated in October 2025 with the M5, the ‌iPad Air‌ is set to get the M4 chip. The M3 in the current ‌iPad Air‌ and the M4 chip are both built on a 3-nanometer process, but the M4 has an updated process that brings speed and efficiency improvements. There are up to 10 CPU cores instead of 8, the Neural Engine is faster, and there's more memory bandwidth. The GPU is also more power efficient for potential battery gains. The M4 CPU is up to 30 percent faster than the M3 CPU, while the GPU is up to 21 percent faster. In actual use, you may not see much of a difference between the M3 and M4 on the ‌iPad Air‌, though you might experience modest improvements with system intensive games and tasks like video editing. The ‌iPad Air‌ already supports Apple Intelligence, and the next-generation model will continue to do so. Apple upped the RAM in some ‌iPad Pro‌ models, but there's no word on whether that same change will come to the ‌iPad Air‌. Current models feature 8GB RAM, the minimum for ‌Apple Intelligence‌. Charging The ‌iPad Pro‌ was upgraded with fast charge functionality with the update to the M5 chip, and that's something that could trickle down to the ‌iPad Air‌. N1 Networking Chip The ‌iPad Air‌ and other tablets released in 2026 will probably adopt the N1 networking chip that Apple first introduced in the iPhone 17 models. The N1 chip is an Apple-designed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip that offers connectivity and efficiency improvements compared to the third-party chips that Apple has used in previous devices. The N1 supports the latest Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 technology. The current ‌iPad Air‌ offers Wi-Fi 6E support, so the next-generation model could see faster Wi-Fi speeds on compatible networks with Wi-Fi 7. Apple Modem Apple used the C1X in the M5 ‌iPad Pro‌, and it's likely the cellular versions of the ‌iPad Air‌ will get that same modem chip. The C1X is an upgraded variant of the C1, Apple's first in-house modem chip. It offers performance on par with Qualcomm chips, though 5G connectivity is limited to sub-6GHz with no support for mmWave 5G. That's not an issue on the ‌iPad‌, because the current version of the ‌iPad Air‌ doesn't support mmWave. Apple's modem chips are much more power efficient than Qualcomm modem chips, and are able to better integrate with other ‌iPad‌ components. Pricing There are no rumors of a price increase, so the 11-inch model is expected to continue to start at 599,ドル while the 13-inch model will start at 799ドル. Launch Date We're expecting the ‌iPad Air‌ to come out sometime around March or April 2026. Apple could be planning to hold a spring event, since there are several products that are rumored to be launching in that timeframe. This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Google Mocks iPhone in Musical ‘Wicked’ Ad Claiming Pixel Firsts
Google this week shared a new ad in its ongoing anti-Apple "BestPhonesForever" series, this time leaning into the launch of the new Wicked: For Good movie that's out in theaters. The spot features an iPhone fawning over a Pixel smartphone before breaking into the Wicked: For Good song. Google suggests that it was first to multiple features that the ‌iPhone‌ then copied, like screening phone calls and removing unwanted images from photos.Oh Pixel, I'm so lucky to have a friend like you. You've always inspired me! You do things first that show me the way. Like fixing photos, screening calls, or building an AI assistant you can have real conversations with. It's not clear how Google's ad featuring singing smartphones might attract customers to Pixel devices given that it doesn't share details on any actual features. Google has been sharing ads that pit its Pixel smartphones against the ‌iPhone‌ since 2023, and it's become a popular ad campaign with Pixel fans with more than 30 in the series. The ads typically include feature comparisons or criticize the ‌iPhone‌ for lacking features like conversational AI.This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

MacRumors Giveaway: Win an Apple Watch Series 11 and Nylon Bands From Southern Straps
For this week's giveaway, we've teamed up with Southern Straps to offer MacRumors readers a chance to win an Apple Watch Series 11 and three nylon bands from Southern Straps to go along with it. Southern Straps is a California-based company that has been producing high-quality bands for the Apple Watch since the watch first launched, and the company's selection of bands offer a great alternative to Apple's bands in unique styles that Apple does not offer. Over a decade ago, Southern Straps set out to make nylon NATO-style bands for the Apple Watch, and it is still making those same handcrafted watch straps today. With multiple years of experience, Southern Straps has had time to perfect the band's look and construction. Available for 30,ドル each Southern Straps Apple Watch band is made from a single piece of nylon that is folded over, heat sealed, and stitched together for durability. The multi-step process makes sure that every band is going to hold up for multiple years of use, and there is a five-year warranty on the bands. Southern Straps offers 10+ color options, ranging from solid colors in green, black, and beige, to striped options in colorful combinations like blue and green, blue and pink, khaki and red, blue and white, black and gray, and the classic red, white, and blue. Bands can be ordered with hardware in black, silver, or gold to match the different Apple Watch models. There are two sizes: one that is compatible with 42mm to 49mm Apple Watch models, and one that is compatible with smaller 38mm to 42mm models. The bands work with every Apple Watch model from the original Apple Watch to the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and the Series 11. Pegged spring bars are included with each band so that you can change the hardware if you get an Apple Watch in a new size or a new color. The MacRumors Show: iPhone 18 Pro Looks Like a Huge Upgrade
On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we talk through all of the new features and improvements expected to come to next year's iPhone 18 Pro and ‌iPhone 18‌ Pro Max models. Subscribe to The MacRumors Show YouTube channel for more videos Apple's next-generation iPhones are less than ten months away and we already have a good idea about what to expect based on corroborated leaks, rumors, and reports from reliable sources. While the overall design of the ‌iPhone 18‌ Pro is expected to remain largely the same as that of the iPhone 17 Pro, it could feature translucent or color-matched rear glass, as well as a thicker design to accommodate a bigger battery. Apple is rumored to be testing at least three new color options for the ‌iPhone 18‌ Pro models, including burgundy, brown, and purple, but only one of these is expected to be carried forward to production. The front of the device is expected to see Face ID moved under the display for the first time, resulting in a smaller Dynamic Island and potentially a left-aligned punch-hole camera. The front-facing camera is also expected to see a bump up to 24-megapixels. The main rear camera could receive a new three-stack image sensor from Samsung and it is highly likely to get a variable aperture. A variable-aperture system physically adjusts the lens opening, letting more light in for low-light shots or narrowing the opening for brighter scenes and deeper depth of field. Apple is also expected to "simplify" the Camera Control by removing its capacitive functions, moving it to rely on pressure alone. It should also sport the A20 Pro chip, which will be Apple's first based on TSMC's 2nm process for enhanced performance and efficiency. A custom "C2" chip is expected to displace Qualcomm's 5G modem, with support for mmWave 5G in the United States. In addition, Apple apparently plans to add support for 5G networks that operate via satellites rather than Earth-based towers. The ‌iPhone 18‌ Pro and ‌iPhone 18‌ Pro Max are expected to debut in the fall of 2026 alongside the first foldable iPhone. The ‌iPhone‌ 18e, ‌iPhone 18‌, and iPhone Air 2 are likely to follow in the spring of 2027. New Apple Store Opening in Massachusetts Next Month
Apple has announced it will be opening an all-new store at The Shops at Blackstone Valley, an open-air shopping center in Millbury, Massachusetts, near Worcester. The store is set to open on Friday, December 12, at 12 p.m. local time. Apple is located next to fashion retailer Coach at the shopping center. Apple has yet to share a photo of the store, but it will have a similar design as its Birkdale Village location in North Carolina. Apple's newer stores typically feature a dedicated counter for customers to pick up orders they placed online. Apple Birkdale Village The new store is a replacement for Apple's existing location at Solomon Pond Mall, in nearby Marlborough, Massachusetts. That location will be closing permanently next month, after more than 10 years of operations. For relocations like these, Apple typically gives employees the opportunity to transfer to the new store.Tag: Apple StoreThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

This Free App Unlocks AirPods Features on Android Devices
AirPods have always worked with Android phones, but with limited functionality and a less seamless listening experience. A new app called LibrePods is changing that. The free app unlocks features on Android that are typically reserved for Apple devices, including ear detection that pauses music when you remove an earbud, Head Gestures for answering calls, and Conversational Awareness that lowers volume while you're talking. It also enables switching between noise control modes, checking accurate battery levels, and customizing accessibility settings. To make it all work, developer Kavish Devar reverse-engineered Apple's proprietary protocols to make AirPods identify a connected Android device as an iPhone or iPad, which tricks them into sharing device status information normally locked to Apple's ecosystem. There are some caveats, though. LibrePods currently requires a rooted Android phone with the Xposed framework installed, thanks to what Devar calls "a bug in the Android Bluetooth stack." OnePlus and Oppo devices running ColorOS or OxygenOS 16 can use the app without rooting, however some features like Transparency mode customization still need root access. The app supports all AirPods models, including AirPods Max, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Pro 3 (excluding heart rate monitoring), though not all features are unlocked on earlier AirPods. Interested Android owners can view more details about the project on its GitHub page or directly download the APK file. Apple Launches Second Limited-Edition iPhone Accessory in a Month
Apple has begun selling the Hikawa Phone Grip and Stand, a new limited-edition iPhone accessory designed with accessibility in mind. Designed by LA-based Bailey Hikawa to celebrate the 40th anniversary of accessibility at Apple, the grip uses magnets to securely snap onto any iPhone with MagSafe. Apple says it can be removed with ease, and doubles as a stand with two different viewing angles, in both vertical and horizontal orientations. Inspired by modern sculpture, the Hikawa's design process involved direct input from individuals with disabilities affecting muscle strength, dexterity, and hand control. The limited edition Hikawa Phone Grip and Stand is available in two colors: a bold, high-visibility Chartreuse and recycled Crater, exclusive to Apple. The Hikawa Phone Grip and Stand costs 69ドル.95 and can be ordered from Apple's online store in the U.S. It's the second limited-edition iPhone accessory Apple has released this month, following the high-end designer iPhone Pocket, a cross-body pouch starting at 149ドル.95.Tag: AccessibilityThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Report: Low-Cost iPhone, iPad, MacBook Coming Early 2026
Apple is planning to release new entry-level models across its iPhone, iPad, and Mac categories early next year, with an all-new affordable MacBook the most notable addition to the lineup. According to a new research report by Jeff Pu of GF Securities seen by MacRumors, Apple will launch the iPhone 17e – its second iteration of the "e" line – in the spring, likely along with a 12th-generation iPad, and a new MacBook featuring an A-series chip originally made for ‌iPhones‌. The new, previously rumored MacBook is said to use the A18 Pro from 2024's iPhone 16 Pro models. It is expected to feature a 13-inch display and come in silver, blue, pink, and yellow color options like the ‌iPad‌. To meet the MacBook's lower price point – likely to be somewhere between 699ドル and 899ドル – Apple may make compromises such as using an older design or display components, 8GB of memory, or even just a single USB-C port. For the iPhone 17e, Pu believes Apple will use an A19 chip, an 18-megapixel Center Stage camera, and Apple's C1 modem, with most other specifications remaining unchanged from the iPhone 16e. Other rumors suggest the iPhone 17e could transition to the Dynamic Island instead of the current notch at the top of the display. For the 12th-generation iPad, there are no design changes expected, but Apple will upgrade it with an A18 chip, enabling the low-cost iPad to support Apple Intelligence for the first time. Pu's equity research report broadly corroborates several other reports indicating that Apple will pursue a split-launch cycle for its iPhones going forward. The second half of next year will see the iPhone 18 Pro models launch alongside Apple's first foldable iPhone. Meanwhile, the regular iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and second-generation iPhone Air will arrive in the first half of 2027. The iPhone Air 2 was reportedly supposed to arrive in tandem with the iPhone 18 Pro models, but poor sales on its maiden outing has caused Apple to delay the second version while it looks at a redesign, possibly featuring dual rear cameras. Pu believes that Apple will be largely immune to recent DDR memory price rises through 2026, thanks to its strong procurement power. ChatGPT Group Chats Now Available Worldwide
OpenAI today announced the worldwide rollout of group chats in ChatGPT, allowing multiple people to collaborate with ChatGPT in a shared conversation. OpenAI started testing group chats with a small number of people last week, but the feedback was positive so it is now expanding the feature to everyone. With group chats, ChatGPT users can create a shared conversation space and invite friends, family, or coworkers. Group chats are separate from private conversations, and OpenAI says that the group creator's personal ChatGPT memory is never shared with anyone in the chat. According to OpenAI, group chats can be useful for planning a weekend trip with friends, designing a backyard garden, collaborating on design ideas, finding a restaurant that suits everyone's tastes, or settling debates. Group chats can also be used for research for school or work projects, incorporating shared articles, notes, and questions. Creating a group chat can be done by tapping on the people icon in the top right corner of any new or existing chat. People can be invited by sharing a link, and anyone with the link can invite more people, with up to 20 supported. Group chats are aggregated in a clearly-labeled section of the sidebar, separate from personal chats. OpenAI says ChatGPT was taught new social behaviors for group chats. It follows the flow of conversation and decides when to respond and when to stay quiet based on the context of the conversation. Mentioning ChatGPT in a message will prompt it to respond, and ChatGPT can react to messages with emojis. Group chats are available to all logged-in users on free, Go, Plus, and Pro ChatGPT plans. OpenAI says that it will continue to refine the feature as more people start using it.This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Google Launches Nano Banana Pro AI Image Generator With Improved Text Capabilities
Google today announced the launch of Nano Banana Pro, an image generation model that is a followup to the Nano Banana model that came out earlier this year. Nano Banana Pro is built on Gemini 3 Pro, Google's latest and most advanced AI model. Google says that Nano Banana Pro is the best model for generating images with correctly rendered and legible text, from a short tagline to a long paragraph. Nano Banana Pro's text expertise allows for the creation of mockups and posters with different fonts, textures, and word style, plus it works in multiple languages. Content is more helpful than before, with Nano Banana Pro able to create text-heavy infographics and diagrams for learning purposes. It can connect to Google Search to gather information for a graphic, and blend more elements than before. It supports uploading up to 14 images and can maintain the consistency and resemblance of up to five people. There are image editing tools in Nano Banana Pro that can be used to select, refine, and transform parts of images with localized editing. Camera angles, focus, color, and lighting can be adjusted, and there are 2K and 4K resolution output options. With the launch of Nano Banana Pro, Google is giving Gemini the ability to tell if an image was generated with Google AI. AI-created images feature SynthIDs and a visible watermark on images generated by free and AI Pro tier users. Nano Banana Pro is available in the Gemini app when using the Create images feature with the Thinking model. Free users will receive limited quotas, and then will revert to the original Nano Banana model. Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers can generate more images before hitting the limit. Nano Banana Pro is also available for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in AI mode in Search. Google is making Nano Banana Pro available for companies that use Google Ads, and developers can use it through the Gemini API and Google AI Studio.Tag: GoogleThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Will Apple Kill Google's Surprise Android to iPhone AirDrop Interoperability?
Earlier today, Google made a surprise announcement that the Quick Share file transfer feature on Pixel 10 smartphones was able to work with AirDrop, enabling first-party file sharing between Android devices and Apple devices. Typically, Apple and Google work together on cross-platform features, but it turns out that Apple had no involvement this time. Google created the Quick Share to AirDrop interoperability on its own, and apparently sprung it on Apple with a public announcement. From a statement Google provided to Android Authority: We accomplished this through our own implementation. Our implementation was thoroughly vetted by our own privacy and security teams, and we also engaged a third party security firm to pentest the solution. It's possible that Google gave Apple a heads up about its plan to devise an Android and iPhone file transfer solution, but Apple's total lack of participation in the announcement suggests that Apple wasn't interested in working with Google to develop it. Google says that it is using its own implementation, and Apple's take on that is unclear. Apple has not historically supported third-party workarounds for interoperability between ‌iPhone‌ and Android devices, and it continually worked to put a stop to an iMessage for Android feature that Beeper attempted in 2023. The Beeper situation does seem to have some parallels with Google's AirDrop move. Beeper reverse engineered Apple's iMessage protocols and encryption, using Apple's iMessage servers to allow Android users to send blue bubble messages to ‌iPhone‌ users. Apple was able to successfully shut down Beeper's messaging solution. Google is a much bigger company than Beeper, and now that it has publicly announced and launched the Quick Share to AirDrop functionality, it would be harder for Apple to oppose it. Apple is also facing more intense regulatory pressure than it was even two years ago, so it might not want to kill the cross-platform file sharing feature. File sharing was implemented with an interoperability layer between Quick Share and AirDrop that uses the Rust programming language, according to Google. Google claims that it had a third-party pentest the security of the file sharing protocol, and that it worked to vet the solution with its own privacy and security teams. Google accompanied the announcement with a full blog post on the underlying security. Apple hasn't commented yet. Apple and Google have previously worked together on several cross-platform features, including RCS messaging, unknown tracker identification and alerts, and SIM transfers. This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

iOS 26.2 Adds These New Features to Your iPhone
iOS 26.2 is currently in beta testing. The upcoming update includes a handful of new features and changes on the iPhone, including a new Liquid Glass slider for the Lock Screen's clock, offline lyrics for Apple Music, and more. In a recent press release, Apple confirmed that iOS 26.2 will be released to all users in December, but it did not provide a specific release date. Keep reading for eight new features coming with iOS 26.2. The update is compatible with the iPhone 11 and newer, but some features require a newer iPhone. Liquid Glass Slider on Lock Screen A new slider in the Lock Screen customization menu lets you adjust the opacity of Liquid Glass for the clock, allowing you to decide how clear or frosted it appears. This comes after iOS 26.1 added "Clear" and "Tinted" options for Liquid Glass overall. Offline Lyrics in Apple Music iOS 26.2 adds offline lyric support to Apple Music, allowing you to view a song's lyrics even when you are not connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network. Sleep Score Revisions iOS 26.2 and watchOS 26.2 have revised Sleep Score ranges: Very Low: 0-40 (previously 0-29) Low: 41-60 (previously 30-49) OK: 61-80 (previously 50-69) High: 81-95 (previously 70-89) Very High: 96-100 (previously 90-100)Apple says sleep scores are calculated based on how long you slept, the consistency of when you fell asleep, and the frequency and duration of waking up during the night. The feature is available in the Health app on all iPhone models compatible with iOS 26, and in the Sleep app on all Apple Watch models compatible with watchOS 26. Alarms for Reminders iOS 26.2 lets you set alarms for reminders in Apple's Reminders app. When adding a reminder, selecting a time and then toggling on the "Urgent" option will cause an alarm to go off at the designated time. Apple Podcasts Enhancements Apple's Podcasts app has three new features on iOS 26.2, including automatic chapters for episodes, timed links on the screen, and the ability to view other podcasts that a podcast mentions right from the audio player and the transcript. Apple News Revamp In the Apple News app, there is now a dedicated "Following" tab, and buttons for quick access to topics like sports, puzzles, politics, business, and food. iPhone Screen Flash for Notifications Starting with iOS 26.2, your iPhone's screen can flash when you receive a notification. Previously, this setting was limited to the LED camera flash on the back of the iPhone. In the Settings app, under Accessibility → Audio & Visual → Flash for Alerts, there are now options for LED Flash, Screen, and Both. Or, you can keep the setting turned off. AirPods Live Translation in EU iOS 26.2 makes Live Translation on AirPods available in the EU. Live Translation allows you to understand someone who is speaking a different language than you. For example, if you speak English, and someone is speaking to you in French, Siri can tell you what they are saying in English through your AirPods. The feature works best when both participants in a conversation are using Live Translation on AirPods. If you are talking with someone who is not wearing AirPods, you can display a live transcription in the other person's language on your iPhone. Live Translation is available on the AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, and higher-end AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. The feature launched in the U.S. and select other countries with iOS 26, but it was not available in the EU until iOS 26.2, as Apple said it needed additional time to ensure compliance with the EU's Digital Markets Act. iOS 26: Use Live Translation With AirPods In addition to compatible AirPods, users need an iPhone 15 Pro or newer with Apple Intelligence turned on and Apple's Translate app installed. As of iOS 26.1, Live Translation on AirPods supports the following languages: English (U.S.) English (U.K.) French (France) German (Germany) Portuguese (Brazil) Spanish (Spain) Chinese — Simplified (China) Chinese — Traditional (China) Japanese Korean Italian iOS 26 also has a built-in Live Translation feature in the Messages, Phone, and FaceTime apps, with no AirPods required.Related Roundups: iOS 26, iPadOS 26Related Forum: iOS 26This article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Enhancements to help you submit and market your apps and games
As part of our ongoing commitment to helping developers succeed on the App Store, we’re introducing new options for submitting content and updates while your app is in review, double the number of custom product pages, and offer codes for all In-App Purchase types.Submit additional items to App ReviewNow you can send additional items to App Review independent of an existing submission, giving you greater flexibility when submitting your apps and games. For example, you can now submit: One or more In-App Events in a separate submission if you have an app version under review. An app version to address a critical bug that’s separate from any existing custom product pages under review. One or more Game Center features — including achievements, leaderboards, challenges, and more — in a submission that’s separate from an app version under review. Learn more about submittingCreate double the number of custom product pages and add keywordsCustom product pages let you highlight different content and features within your app or game using unique screenshots, app previews, and promotional text. To provide you with even more flexibility, you can now create and publish up to 70 custom pages at a given time. Additionally, you can now assign keywords to each custom product page so they’re more discoverable on the App Store. Custom product pages with keywords assigned to them can appear in search results for those selected keywords instead of your default product page.Learn more about custom product pagesOffer codes expand to all In-App Purchase typesOffer codes now support all In-App Purchase types, including consumable, non-consumable, and non-renewing subscriptions, in addition to expanded support for auto-renewable subscriptions. With offer codes, you can present people with a limited-time offer for a free or discounted In-App Purchase. This allows you to share the value of your In-App Purchases and encourage engagement and purchases within your apps and games. This expanded support includes the ability to create offer codes for: Consumable, non-consumable, and non-renewing subscriptions. Auto-renewable subscriptions that don’t auto-renew once the promotional period ends. Schedule 1 and the Paid Applications Agreement (Schedules 2 and 3) will be updated to indicate that offer codes are available for all In-App Purchase types.1Promo codes for In-App PurchasesOffer codes build on the functionality of promo codes and provide improved configuration and customer eligibility options. As a result, starting March 26, 2026, you’ll no longer be able to create promo codes for In-App Purchases in App Store Connect. Any existing promo codes for In-App Purchases you’ve created can be redeemed until they expire. You can continue to use promo codes in order to provide people with a free download of your app.Learn about creating offer codesLearn about offer codes for auto-renewable subscriptionsImplementing offer codes1 Translations of the updated agreement will be available on the Apple Developer website within one month.

Mozilla Says It’s Finally Done With Two-Faced Onerep
In March 2024, Mozilla said it was winding down its collaboration with Onerep -- an identity protection service offered with the Firefox web browser that promises to remove users from hundreds of people-search sites -- after KrebsOnSecurity revealed Onerep's founder had created dozens of people-search services and was continuing to operate at least one of them. Sixteen months later, however, Mozilla is still promoting Onerep. This week, Mozilla announced their partnership with Onerep will officially end next month.

The Cloudflare Outage May Be a Security Roadmap
An intermittent outage at Cloudflare on Tuesday briefly knocked many of the Internet's top destinations offline. Some affected Cloudflare customers were able to pivot away from the platform temporarily so that visitors could still access their websites. But security experts say doing so may have also triggered an impromptu network penetration test for organizations that have come to rely on Cloudflare to block many types of abusive and malicious traffic.

Microsoft Patch Tuesday, November 2025 Edition
Microsoft this week pushed security updates to fix more than 60 vulnerabilities in its Windows operating systems and supported software, including at least one zero-day bug that is already being exploited. Microsoft also fixed a glitch that prevented some Windows 10 users from taking advantage of an extra year of security updates, which is nice because the zero-day flaw and other critical weaknesses patched today affect all versions of Windows, including Windows 10.

Drilling Down on Uncle Sam’s Proposed TP-Link Ban
The U.S. government is reportedly preparing to ban the sale of wireless routers and other networking gear from TP-Link Systems, a tech company that currently enjoys an estimated 50% market share among home users and small businesses. Experts say while the proposed ban may have more to do with TP-Link's ties to China than any specific technical threats, much of the rest of the industry serving this market also sources hardware from China and ships products that are insecure fresh out of the box.

A Ukrainian man indicted in 2012 for conspiring with a prolific hacking group to steal tens of millions of dollars from U.S. businesses was arrested in Italy and is now in custody in the United States, KrebsOnSecurity has learned. Sources close to the investigation say Yuriy Igorevich Rybtsov, a 41-year-old from the Russia-controlled city of Donetsk, Ukraine, was previously referenced in U.S. federal charging documents only by his online handle "MrICQ." Aisuru Botnet Shifts from DDoS to Residential Proxies
Aisuru, the botnet responsible for a series of record-smashing distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks this year, recently was overhauled to support a more low-key, lucrative and sustainable business: Renting hundreds of thousands of infected Internet of Things (IoT) devices to proxy services that help cybercriminals anonymize their traffic. Experts says a glut of proxies from Aisuru and other sources is fueling large-scale data harvesting efforts tied to various artificial intelligence (AI) projects, helping content scrapers evade detection by routing their traffic through residential connections that appear to be regular Internet users.
