On July 14, 2009 APEC Architect Memorandum of Cooperation on Registered/Licensed Architects in Japan and New Zealand to Facilitate Mobility of Architects in the Provision of Architectural Services was concluded that is the second bilateral recognition agreement of architects following the one with Australia in 2008, which is under the APEC Architect framework agreed among 14 participating economies.

This Memorandum enables Japanese APEC Architects to be Registered Architects in New Zealand by an interview about aspects of the architectural process in New Zealand that are unique to that economy. This is instead of a much more complex, expensive and time consuming process that other applicant’s face, which includes scrutiny of accademic qualificiations, having to work in New Zealand under supervision for a set period, and then having to present case studies of the applicant's work. Reference including the details of the interview assessment should be referred below.
