Theme of the workshop

The aim of this half-day workshop is to introduce and discuss the current works related to social robotic teleoperation, focusing on a) methods to enhance / train teleoperation of robots, and b) its new applications.

Recently there have been growing needs for teleoperation, especially after the Fukushima disaster including the nuclear energy plant explosion. Since then, many studies as well as products have emerged in the field of teleoperated robots. However, the focus have been placed on product development and mostly no efforts have been given on the training and enhancement of teleoperation. Besides, there are emerging usage of teleoperated robotics, especially in the social interaction field such as elderly care.

In this workshop, we will gather novel works on this emerging field and discuss future research directions.

• Training for effective teleoperation
• Improvements in teleoperation system
• Applications for social teleoperation 
• Bodily communication by teleoperation 
• Enhancing social interaction by teleoperation 
• New methods for enhancing teleoperation experience 
• Evaluation methods for teleoperation
