CCS lectures

The Society organises a regular programme of talks and seminars between September and May each year. Our meetings are held in Manchester and in London.

During the Covid-19 emergency we introduced Zoom meetings. These have been outstandingly successful in bringing our lecture series to a very much wider audience. Consquently we now hold our meetings on a face to face basis as we have traditionally done, but also using Zoom for members and others who are unable to attend in person or who prefer not to do so.

It will be necessary to pre-register your intention to attend events in London and it will also be necessary to register to attend Zoom meetings so that we can email you the information you will need to attend. Manchester events do not require pre-booking for in-person attendance.

When you book one of our lectures on the Eventbrite system, you will be asked to decide whether you would like to attend in person or whether you would rather attend using Zoom. In the event that face-to-face meetings are not possible, anybody who has booked will, of course, be given details of the Zoom meeting.

• Manchester meetings are organised by the North West Group of the CCS. The lectures are normally held at The Manchester Metropolitan University, Chester Street, Manchester, M1 5GD - Room E0.05 in the John Dalton East Building (subject to possible change). Lectures will start at 18:00

• London CCS London meetings are at the BCS location – 25 Copthall Avenue, Moorgate EC2R 7BP. The venue is near the corner of Copthall Avenue and London Wall, a ten minute walk from Bank Station (connection from Waterloo) and three from Moorgate (connections from all the other major London rail terminii except Marylebone)

  Lectures start at 14:30 but many members are in the delightful habit of coming early from 14:00 for informal discussions beforehand.

  will be the Zoom link for remote attendees.

  We have recently experienced a problem with the EventBrite system whereby the requested web page disappears after seven seconds and is replaced by a message reading “Oops, something went wrong!”. We have traced the problem to the use of Norton AntiTrack and have reported the fault without response.

  If you click the “Reserve a spot” or “Get tickets” button within seven seconds all will be well.
