Template updates on earlier Models
Due to my increased understanding on how to build Paper toys, & how to lay out the templates. Plus the fact that my own knowledge of the software used to create better looking templates has improved. I have decided to re-do some of my earlier Model templates.
The posts are still there but the old template downloads have been removed, & replaced with updated versions. This shouldn't change the look of the completed toys, just the Aesthetics of the template, & improvements on the tabs for building etc.
If you have these templates already, please grab the new ones. If you didn't get them before, then go get them now. The templates changed are:
Rockface - Paper Toy
Customisable Paper Mug
10-Pin - Bowling Pin Toy

Gashuku 2011 Penguin
The local Funakoshi Dojo Sensai asked me to make a Toy Mascot for the 2011 South African Gashuku in May. When he mentioned he wanted a penguin, because the theme will be Happy Feet, I instantly thought, there is a lot of paper penguin already out there, but I wanted to give it a go.
My customising has improved over the last month or so, & although it's still a challenge, I hope you agree, it turned out ok. Dr Gert Smit who requested the toy was happy with the finished Model, so I guess I achieved my goal.
The download contains the Penguin template with the Funakoshi SA logo, and Gashuku print on it, plus a template with just the standard Penguin.

Genetically Altered - 14" Camoflage Custom
I was sat around sketching & painting a hand drawn Picture of Genetically Altered, when I had a brainstorm. Wouldn't it be cool to have a massive version of the template, with an urban type skin. With that said I found a very cool Camoflage texture on a DeviantART members page, Jaqx-Textures
Basically, I resized the texture to the size of the template pages. Cut out the template sections, then overlayed the two images. The result looks awesome if I may say so myself.
I wanted to get the Toy as large as possible while keeping the template on A4 size sheets. Once built, the finished model is approx. 14 Inches tall.

Download the Mutant 14" Blank Version Here (Reshaped Arms & lower Body)
Enjoy the toy & please send me any pictures of your built model, posing outside somewhere. I will post them here to share with everyone.

Genetically Altered - Extra Parts & Accessories
I decided to make a few extra pieces for the Genetically Altered template. So, this post is where I shall list all Accessories for the toy. Making as many different options for a toy is something I like the idea of, so when someone decides to custom the model, they can add that extra touch to make it unique.
Experienced digital customisers have always been adding there own parts to models to make them stand out. I thought it would be cool to have a selection of ready made parts.
For extra effect, you could also try adding some crazy hair to the model using the technique found on the Shrunken Head Toy.
Accessories Sheet Number 1
Baseball Cap
Set of Ears
Set of Horns
Accessories Sheet Number 2
Pair of Wings
The Wings are designed to fit the two back shoulder panels. Bat like or even Demonic.. I'll maybe add some Angelic wings 1 day.
Accessories Sheet Numbers 3 & 4
Top Hat
Set of Swords
Make sure to take both Sheet 3 & 4 if your going to add the Top Hat or Swords to your model. I plan to use the Hat myself one day to do a Baron Samedi - Witchdokta Toy, using the Genetically Altered template.
I may add other parts to these sheets to use up the spaces, so keep checking back.

To Download any sheet, click the image to get full size, then Right click & Save as.
Then just print the sheets you want & build the parts along with the Blank Template.

The Horns & Ears can be fitted into the head of the template or even directly into the cap. The more possible choices the better in my opinion :)

Leave me a comment if there is any particular part you think would be awesome for Genetically Altered to have in his collection, or just let me know what you think of the parts so far. Whatever you do, be sure to pick up the Blank Template & start customising.

Genetically Altered - Crush Test Dummy Custom
This will be my 1st Custom done using Illustrator. It's not highly detailed or full of gradients but it's a start. Each time I want to add another process to the customs until I get fully competent. That said, I hope you enjoy the Custom toy.
The design speaks for itself. A Crash Test Dummy, but as it's paper, it became Crush Test instead. I'm hoping this template will become my signature toy, & that many more customs will follow.
My next project is to resize the Baseball Cap template to fit this toy, plus maybe a few other accesories to help with customising. This will help to create different looking Genetically Altered toys.

Download the Re-Shaped DNA Blank Version Here - (Note: New Arms, & slightly re-shaped Body)

Keep checking back for further updates on this & other projects. Thanks for visiting.

Genetically Altered Papertoy
This is the completed version of the toy featured in my Blog Header. I updated the body slighty, to make it more interesting, & I wanted it to be almost like Vinyl toy shape. I held off releasing it for download until I was happy with the template.
This toy is lined up to feature in a collaboration project that is almost finished, so keep checking back to see the progress. I'm still keeping the main details under wraps until it is all finished. For now, let's get back to the stand alone template called "Genetically Altered".
Why did it get that name? well the oversized head for one, & because it gives an almost open ended interpretation for customising. Adding your own template parts, making it a Monstrous Mutation, a Creepy Alien, a Genetic experiment like the creatures from Resident Evil, or just a wierd looking Human.

I have a special release on this toy. As well as the usual Blank Template for you to download & enjoy cutomising. A friend of mine Dicky Wardiansyaha.k.a Bodickraft from NPT did a release Custom for me called "Bad Day". I love the custom, & I hope to talk other Artists into expressing thier talents to create thier own Genetically Altered Papertoy.
Time to get your hands on the goods, & as always please feel free to send me pics or digital templates of your own creations. Use the Contact Tab to email me.

Tiny Tiki - Build your own unique Tiki Idol
Tiki, is the name usually given to a pole-like wooden sculpture, with a somewhat humanoid form. Derived from Polynesian History, the term Tiki today is still represented by this totem, but is more of a decorative culture than a sacred idol. Most people will think of Hawaiian or Maori patterns.
There are many designs possible for a Tiki, so when I started thinking of how to do this template, I wanted the end result to be very custom, so that very few will be alike. The model is made up of blocks & smaller parts to add features, so you basically decide how you want the Tiki to look then build into a totem form.
The above image is my own Hand drawn design, however, I made the mistake of building the Tiki 1st then drawing the designs. That's my own fault for being too eager. Patience is required for this & all paper models. I will attempt another one soon, but I think i'll do a digital custom next time. My understanding of this process is geting better.
One thing I will add about this Paper Toy. Although it is named Tiki, and has parts aimed at achieving the best shape for this. I have added a set of Wings & a Beak to the template. So, with the right collection of parts & designs, a Native American Totem can be achieved. I do plan to add more extra's for this later on.
Any parts you design yourself in template form, that you would like to share with everyone. Use the Contact Tab & send it to me by email, & I will post here for all to download. Enjoy the Toy & don't hesitate to custom & send me Pics & or Template of a finished Tiki.

Baseball Cap Template
A template for a paper baseball cap isn't a new thing. There are others that have been designed previously, but I wanted to make one that is less "Chibby" style & more realisticly shaped.
After building the test model pictured below, I removed all the fold lines from the template, apart from the glue tab fold lines. I didn't make any folds on the actual model itself, so I decided the weren't required. The result was a nicely rounded cap with a peak that has a bevel to it, just like a real one.
There are a lot of design possibilities with a baseball cap, so have lots of fun with it. The download below contains both .png & a CS4 .ai formats, and I would love to see some customs of this one.

Series One of the customs is also now available.

Paper Jumping Bean
I've decided not to number the toys any more, as not all the templates I make are toys. That way there is less categorising.
Anyways, on with the posting. This is a template I wanted to do from the beginning, but favouring other models, & wanting to get more experience 1st. I only got round to completing it over the Xmas holidays.
The concept of a small Jumping Bean toy was around when I was a small child, & that's a long time ago. Im sure that that wasn't the 1st time either.
The original jumping bean is an actual bean found in Mexico. A species of Moth lays it's eggs inside the bean & as the larvea moved around, the bean has the appearance of jumping.
There is a very collectible plastic collection of jumping beans currently on the toy Market called Mighty Beanz. As you will see from them, the customisation possibilities are very great. So, here is the Paper version of an old school toy. You will require a large marble or large rubber super ball, to make it work, but it's a lot of fun once built.
Once built, try rolling it down a sloped surface for best results.

Enjoy the toy, & as always Share any custom templates or pics with me to place on this blog
