Try this:
 gcc -E -P - -I. <<EOF
 #include "lua.h"
 VALUE_OF_LUAL_BUFFERSIZE = LUAL_BUFFERSIZE
 EOF
But I understand that this is not from inside running a Lua interpreter.

You can do that yourself, using the technique above.
