Actually, I frequently use "typ" as a contraction of "type", most
commonly in languages where "type" is a reserved word, but also in C
and sometimes other places. I agree that it's probably rare.
I'd prefer to keep the old name if only because there's no semantic
change and I don't think the name was bad enough to warrant rippling
source changes through extensions, but it doesn't matter _that_ much
in the presence of a compatibility alias.
