Since it's not really useful (same functionality as a loop), I'd be for removing it, but to just yank it out will break lots of code. I'd at least leave it in for 5.2, and note in the manual that it's deprecated and what you should use instead. That gives people a decent amount of time to update their code.
And I believe that's exactly what the manual said it was doing.
