EFFECTS OF TOPOGRAPHY ON SOLITARY ROSSBY WAVES IN A BAROTROPIC ATMOSPHERIC MODEL

  • Abstract

The influences of topography on solitary Rossby waves are discussed by using a barotropic atmospheric model. The results show that the topography is an important factor exciting solitary Rossby waves, and its effects are different with different height scales. Two different patterns of solitary Rossby waves are obtained by using numerical calculation.
