SOME BASIC FORMS OF LARGE-SCALE ATMOSPHERIC MOTION AND DISSIPATIVE STRUCTURES

  • Abstract

    Recently, Chou (1983) puts forward a principle about the simplification of the full equations governing the motion of the atmosphere. This principle is used to discuss the properties of Lorenz low-order system. As a way of simplification, the low-order spectral method satisfies the principle.The quasi-geostrophic baroclinic waves and the orographic standing waves are two basic kinds of the forms for the large-scale atmospheric motions, they all have the characters of dissipative structures.
