Do you, uh, FOO?

posted at 10:02 PM | PermaLink | Comments (5)

Has it really been a year already?

Wow.

Friday afternoon, Radwin and I are headed up to Foo Camp 2.0 (or 2004, I guess, but 2.0 just seems more appropriate). Last year was a blast. I only hope that this year's is even half as enjoyable.

If you're FOOing, I'll see you there.

Hopefully I'll have the energy to write up the experience again. I wonder if John Battelle will write about it again? :-)

Battelle and The First Rule of AdSense

posted at 06:08 PM | PermaLink | Comments (5)

John Battelle is blogging his experience with advertising on his weblog. He's started with Google AdSense (which I also use) but seems to have violated the First Rule of Google AdSense rather quickly.

There's some amusing (or sad, depending on your point of view) stuff in his post as well as some good comments from Cory Doctorow in the comments, like:

anything the scale of Google is way, way too big to be involved in editorial decision

I think John's response(s) to Google are quite appropriate. I'm curious to see how this evolves.

I remember being rejected by the AdSense program in the early days. I mentioned it to a few Google folks at Foo Camp 2003 who encouraged me to re-apply. Obviously that all worked out, but the initial blow off was rather puzzling.

I guess things haven't changed much.

Business 2.0 on Foo Camp

posted at 12:28 PM | PermaLink | Comments (11)

The Good News

According to Jeremy Wright, I'm mentioned in this Business 2.0 article on Foo Camp.

The Bad News

I'm not about to pay Business 2.0 5ドル to read a single page of a single article. A subscription form keep popping up when I try to read page 2. I'd gladly pay 'em 0ドル.50 or so. Micro-payments anyone?

Sigh.

It's PayPal not rocket surgery, guys. You'd think that part of the "2.0" in "Business 2.0" would involve understanding how business ought to work on-line, wouldn't you?

Anyway, if somehow a copy of the article magically ends up in my INBOX I can actually read it.

Update: The author has provided a PDF version from his site (local copy). Thanks John!

Foo Drink

Tim Bray just put a bottle of Tequila on the table. And there about 15 people sitting around with notebooks, working on our hack for the night.

Danger ahead.

Foo Camp is not a Secret

posted at 07:52 PM | PermaLink | Comments (5)

At least that's what Tim O'Reilly told us. I've been so busy talking with interesting people that I haven't had a chance to read blogs since I got here. So I don't know who else is writing about it--aside from some TrackBacks.

Heading to Foo Camp

posted at 11:37 AM | PermaLink | Comments (11)

I'll be heading to Foo Camp later today and in Sebastopol most of the weekend. Who else will be there? Have a look.

I don't know what to expect there, but it should be an interesting weekend.

More on this later.

Update: Apparently the first rule of Foo Camp is that you don't blog about Foo Camp. Too late, I guess. I noticed that Dan linked there too and figured it was okay. Oh well. Apparently "invitation only" means "secret--don't blog this."

Sigh.

Perhaps someone should have mentioned that earlier to the 150 bloggers that are gonna be there.

Update #2: Ah, Scoble says that Dave outted the outting. How amusing.
