Refining CGM Dynamics: Understanding Multi-Sightline Variation in Cool Gas with Gravitationally Lens

Circumgalactic medium (CGM) studies must often rely on single pencil-beam absorption measurements per galaxy, limiting our understanding of the full dynamics and scales of CGM material. Gravitationally lensed quasars offer a unique opportunity to probe multiple sightlines through a single galaxy's CGM. By characterizing absorption variations across these sightlines over ~10s kpc scales, we can refine our understanding of intra-CGM variation and its impact on single-sightline measurements and derived "ensemble" properties. While previous studies using gravitationally lensed quasars were constrained to small samples due to their rarity, modern search techniques have significantly increased their discovery rate, enabling larger-scale investigations. I will present a galaxy-centric analysis of MgII absorption associated with 63 galaxies at z~0.25-1.39 within ~1.5 Rvir of the lensed quasars. I will discuss the comparison of the scatter in the anticorrelation between MgII equivalent width and impact parameter in our lensed quasar sample to that observed in single-sightline ensemble studies as well as the observed variations or lack thereof of the MgII absorption within individual CGM.
