Interestingly, AntiX can't connect to my wifi, but DSL can! Whatever the difference is... keep it. Smile

Thanks for the information. Can you tell me which exact version of antiX you were using?

I am trying to resurrect an ACER Aspire One, to give to an Elderly Senior who can't afford to buy breakfast, much less a PC.

DSL installed, and with a USB WiFi device, it sees my WiFi channels,

BUT,
it will not take my Password for my WiFi channels

what is wrong here?

Is this a HD install? If so, (and no luck above), turn on firewall (control center->network->toggle fw), connect with phone (cable) usb tether, do the DSL File Restore, update & upgrade (sudo /usr/local/bin/cli-aptiX). If nothing changed, we'll keep at it, but that should happen anyway.

Welcome.

Yes, I let it wipe out the entire drive, the install was via Ventoy and the DSL.iso
every thing seems work good, except it will NOT accept my WiFi password where it says "Passphrase"

I would assume, that Passphrase, is the same as my WiFi channel Password ??

Conman immediatel errors out, "not valid"

I just this minute saw your Post, and will try your Recommendations.

I just finished reading the PDF, and I have already done what is suggested to do there.
the PDF says that all I need do is enter the 'password' and it should work, but for me, it does not.

this is the REF-1 of the PDF
________________________________________________________________________________
> Check all boxes marked with a red arrow
> Click on the tab [Wireless]
> [ref1] (1) Select the SSID (Network name) of your Access
Point (WiFi transceiver) that you want to connect with
In this example "ASUS-GT-BE98" is the SSID of the
WiFi transceiver in the router/modem
> (2) Click the [Edit] button
> (3) Type the WPA2/WPA3 WiFi password in the
"Passphrase" field
> (4) Click [OK]
The WiFi password is now registered "behind"
the SSID "ASUS-GT-BE98".
The WIFi password will not be kept (remembered)
across a reboot (restart) of your computer, when
you booted antiX from DVD, USB-stick or an ISO file
(Ventoy boot loader)
The WiFi password will be kept when you booted
from an antiX installation that is installed on HDD/
===============
DSL is installed on the Aspire One, it is not running on a stick or DVD.

so it should have accepted the password.

Comments???

I have noted from the 1st, that Conman shows PSK/WPS

my WiFi is WPA/WPA2 protocol
and I don't see a way to change that, this is my 1st experience with DSL

I am a Linux Mint guy

Thanks for info and pic--much-appreciated. Yeah that doesn't sound right. Need to respond later/too late in my day. I know almost nothing is more frustrating as the inability to get a basic interface authenticated as it happened here months ago. What does:
Code:
inxi -N
say, BTW?

Basically, (a) you're not alone (b) antiX & DSL have 2 tools for this -- Connman and Ceni (and Network Assistant under Maint in Control Center), and © Connman is the default and will stubbornly restart unless you choose Ceni.

For now, if you want to try anyway, in the Control Center under Select Wifi Application choose Ceni (instead of Connman). Then again in the Control Center under Network choose Network Interfaces (that's Ceni) and see if you can make your way through the prompts.

Looks like a stack of threads [url=https://www.antixforum.com/]upstream[/code] on the forum with that same "agent" error.

Okay, I tried Ceni once, don't recall what happened there,
The ACER Aspire One has a hardware BROADCOM WiFi adapter, but it shows to be OFF,
and when I press Fn/WiFi it does not toggle,

so apparently, Anti-X is not recognizing the Hardware Switch ??

here is a pix of the Terminal message. Too long to type out.

https://ibb.co/B26HvqvH

if that pix don't work.

okay, went to Ceni and that took me to Terminal to configure the WiFi card.
What it does NOT show, is the USB WiFi dongle I am using right now, but Conman does see the WiFi dongle.

BUT, Conman will not accept WPA protocol, and that is the only protocol I have on my local WiFi channels.
I have 3 each 2.4g and 3 each 5g WiFi channels....

yep, I am T-Mobile wireless, one Gateway and Two hotspots.
