CAC Strengthens Oversight: Inspections Expose Gaps in Electricity Line Projects

To safeguard public resources and enhance transparency, the Anti-Corruption Commission (CAC), through its Criminal Prevention Service, has intensified efforts to prevent corruption by conducting on-site inspections and monitoring infrastructure projects across national territory.

This proactive initiative is part of CAC’s broader strategy to mitigate corruption risks during project implementation, particularly in physical construction works and payment processes. Between January and June 2025, CAC inspected four stalled projects related to the installation of electricity lines. These projects were located in Covalima (1), Ainaro (1), and Ermera (2) municipalities.

Progress Report on Income, Asset, and Interest Declarations

The Anti-Corruption Commission (CAC) is the competent authority mandated to register and verify Income, Asset, and Interest Declarations for public officials, in accordance with Article 28 of Law No. 7/2020 on Measures to Prevent and Combat Corruption (MPCC Law).

This legal requirement serves two main purposes as outlined in Article 27 of the MPCC Law: 1) To detect and prevent conflicts of interest and 2) to monitor unjustified increases in the assets of public officials.
