1. Purpose of TPM
The Tripartite President’s Meeting (TPM) between Japan, Korea and China was first convened in 2004 as a means to further environmental research, with one of the three countries (Japan-China-Korea) playing host to TPM on respective years. This year, the eighth TPM will be hosted by Japan in Okinawa Prefecture.
At TPM itself, the Presidents, and affiliated researchers, of the three leading institutions in their respective countries - the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES - Japan); the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER - Korea); and the Chinese Research Academy for Environmental Sciences (CRAES – China) – will carry out focused discussions aimed at furthering environmental research in the Asian region, including possibilities for research collaboration.
In addition, an International Workshop (hereafter "WS") will be held as part of the TPM8 program, on November 22 (Tuesday). This year’s WS takes as its themes Asian Air Pollution and Biodiversity Conservation and will consist of lectures and discussions at which affiliated researchers from the three institutions will come together with Okinawa-based researchers, and other persons with a deep interest in these topics.
