Research and Development of Technologies to Promote Biomanufacturing

Bio manufacturing is expected to be used not only in the pharmaceutical and food industries, where it has been addressed earlier, but also in diverse industrial fields such as chemicals, materials, textiles, and fuels. This project is expected to become the industrial foundation for the next generation and the core of our country's competitiveness as "sustainable manufacturing" that replaces various manufacturing processes using conventional fossil resources as raw materials.
In this project, NEDO will provide consistent support for the development and demonstration of technology necessary for building a value chain for biomanufacturing, including collection and conversion of unused resources into raw materials, modification technology such as microorganisms, production, separation, purification, and processing technology, and systems and standards necessary for social implementation. The technology and social systems necessary to build a value chain with diverse raw materials and diverse products as outputs will be demonstrated, and the conversion of manufacturing processes to bio-manufacturing and the social implementation of bio-manufacturing products will be promoted. Furthermore, NEDOs aim to strengthen our country's industrial competitiveness and solve social issues.

NEDO will carry out the following research and development based on the "Bio Manufacturing Revolution Promotion Project Research and Development Plan" established by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
