Citizen’s Festival for the German Unity Day: MPI for Informatics is taking part

The Max Planck Institute for Informatics presents current research projects at the festivities in Saarbrücken.

Together with its partners from the "Saarland Informatics Campus," the Max Planck Institute for Informatics will be represented with a booth in Saarland University’s tent on Mainzer Straße. In addition to exciting hands-on demonstrators, there will also be a virtual reality demonstration and plenty of information about the institute.

The joint booth of Saarland University and Saarland’s research institutions can be found from October 2–4 on the "Zukunft durch Wandel" mile on Mainzer Straße at the intersection with Bleichstraße in Saarbrücken.

With its program, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics provides insights into current research topics at the Institute: In addition to highly realistic avatars for applications in VR, film, games, and medicine, modern methods of rendering and image processing such as "3D Gaussian Splatting" and "DragGAN" will be presented, as well as an AI-based laser processing method for creating high-resolution, coloured metal surfaces. Interactive systems for creating and studying haptic impressions will also be showcased, ranging from collaboratively developing vibration patterns to objects whose material perception changes through targeted vibrations.

The full program in computer science, including the contributions of the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, can be found on Saarland University’s website.
