Justice Minister Participates in the Ministerial Meeting on Promoting People-Centered Justice (May 30, 2022)

On May 30, 2022, State Minister TSUSHIMA Jun participated in the 2nd Ministerial Meeting on Promoting People-Centered Justice via video conference.

This meeting was held voluntarily by a group of states to achieve the core goal of “Justice for All” which was set as Goal 16 of the Sustainable Development Goals. Over ten states, including Japan, the Netherlands, Canada, and Germany participated in this meeting, and each one of the states delivered a statement.

During the video conference, State Minister Tsushima delivered a statement on the importance for states sharing the same view to work together in solidarity against unilateral attempts to change the status quo by undermining the rule of law.

In addition, State Minister Tsushima explained that the Ministry of Justice of Japan (MOJ) would provide technical assistance to strengthen the ability of judicial systems, especially in Asian countries, to enforce the rule of law. He also stated that Japan would host the Japan-ASEAN Special Meeting of Justice Ministers in 2023, taking a leadership role in promoting a "rules-based international order" in the ASEAN region.
