State Minister of Justice Visited Lebanon (Updated)

State Minister of Justice Yoshiie visited Lebanon from February 29 to March 3, 2020. The State Minister met with His Excellency Michel Aoun, President of the Lebanese Republic; Her Excellency Marie-Claude Najem, Minister of Justice; His Excellency Nassif Hitti, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants; and Mr. Yassine Jaber, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Committee of the Lebanese Parliament.
During the meetings, the State Minister conveyed the position of the Government of Japan regarding the flight of defendant Carlos Ghosn and gained the understanding of the Government of Lebanon. At the same time, they shared the recognition that resolving this issue is extremely important for both countries. In addition, the State Minister expressed his hope that building a closer relationship between Lebanon and Japan would facilitate a deeper understanding of Japanese criminal justice system in Lebanon. Furthermore, the State Minister and Minister Najem reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between Japan and Lebanon in the field of justice affairs.
