Minister of Justice’s Visit to Ukraine
On August 5, 2024, Mr. KOIZUMI Ryuji, the Minister of Justice, visited Ukraine for the first time as a Japanese Minister of Justice.
During the visit, Minister Koizumi met with H.E. Mr. Denys Maliuska, the Minister of Justice of Ukraine, and H.E. Mr. Andriy Kostin, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
In the meeting with H.E. Mr. Maliuska, Minister Koizumi expressed his intention to support Ukrainian government's efforts to fight corruption and reform the judicial system, then signed and exchanged the Memorandum of Cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, agreeing to work together to explore possible areas of cooperation between the two ministries in the future.
In the meeting with H.E. Mr. Kostin, the two ministries exchanged views on Japan’s assistance for Ukraine's anti-corruption measures.
Prior to the meeting, Minister Koizumi visited Bucha, outskirts of Kyiv and paid his respects to the memorial monument in the Church of St. Andrew. He also visited the Irpin Central House of Culture near the city, where he confirmed the scars of the war and the state of recovery and reconstruction in the surrounding area.
