The new repair program extends coverage for your device's display for three years from the original purchase date. The program is in effect as of December 8, 2025.
How to get your Pixel 9 Pro repaired
So easy, Gemini could do it
Pixel 9 Pro owners with affected devices can check their options on the Google repair site. The particular malfunctions required for eligbility are specific display problems: either a vertical line that runs from bottom to top or display flickering.
Repairs can be performed in person at Google walk-in centers or other authorized repair locations. Online options are also available. The repair facility will inspect your phone to determine eligibility and then, if you qualify, perform the repairs at no cost to you.
Back up important data prior to taking your phone in for repair. While there shouldn't be any issues, things do happen.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold also has a repair program
The company is unclear about what makes the Fold qualify
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold has its own repair program — eligible devices have "issues that affect functionality of the device." We're not sure why Google's being so vague with the Fold. Perhaps it hasn't identified a specific issue, but just wants to cover its bases. In any case, if your Pixel 9 Pro Fold is having problems, it might be worth trying to take advantage of this program while it lasts.
These aren't the first Pixels to have problems
The tradition goes all the way back to the Pixel 2
With this announcement, the Pixel 9 Pro joins a long line of previous Google phones to have extended repair programs.
|
Reason for extended repair program |
|
|---|---|
|
Pixel 8 |
Vertical lines and display flickering (just like the Pixel 9 Pro). |
|
Pixel 7a |
Battery swelling. |
|
Pixel 5a (5G) |
Devices stopped powering on or had blank screens. |
|
Pixel 4 XL |
Power-related issues, such as the phone shutting down unexpectedly or losing charge too rapidly. |
Display issues, in particular, extend way back to the Pixel 2 XL, which was notorious for problems like muted colors and burn-in. These issues overshadowed many of that phone's positive qualities, like the spectacular camera. Google attempted to address the problems with software updates and an extended warranty program, but it still struggles in the display department 8 years later.
