In 2016, Keio University visited eleven countries and regions—from China, India, and Malaysia to the U.K. and Brazil—and participated in a total of 13 Japan study abroad fairs. Each year, Japanese institutions of higher education attend study abroad fairs to meet with talented students considering study in Japan and to explain the benefits of a Japanese education. Keio’s academic faculty and staff often give short seminars and presentations as well as set up information booths to answer any questions potential students might have about admissions and student life.
On November 19, 2016, Keio University together with the British Council hosted Experience Japan Exhibition (EJE), now in its sixth year, at The Royal Society’s historic venue in the heart of London. The event has grown to be the largest Japan study abroad fair in London. 15 universities and educational institutions exhibited alongside five Japanese institutions based in the UK, welcoming nearly 700 British and European visitors in a single day.
In addition to the information booths, EJE hosted a wide range of seminar programs: an introduction to digital education platform FutureLearn, where Keio offers courses; a crash course on diversity within otaku culture by Dr. Kazunori Sugiura, Associate Professor at Keio’s Graduate School of Media Design (KMD); study abroad experiences in Japan by British students; and information concerning employment in Japan. The event was filled with visitors eagerly seeking out information on work and study in Japan.
