Preparing a textbook and teaching materials for contemporary economies in Latin America(2021_2_40_003)

Outline

The Latin American economy has been undergoing a significant transformation in the 21st century. The transformation includes the rise of leftist governments, economic growth fueled by the commodities boom, the emergence and expansion of the middle class, the growing presence of China in international trade and investment, the change in leftist governments after the commodities boom, large-scale social unrest in response to inequality and corruption, and the impact of COVID-19 on the economy and society. Most Japanese textbooks on Latin American economics were published nearly 10 years ago and they dedicate many pages to events that transpired in the 20th century. Therefore, this project aims to produce a new textbook on contemporary Latin American economics in Japanese as well as other teaching materials suited to today’s online learning needs.
