Workforce, Labor Market and Economic Development in the Philippines(2018_1_40_003)

Outline
The Philippines, with a population of over 100 million people, has recently sustained a high GDP growth rate (6% on average). However, the country has long struggled with reducing the number of poor households, diminishing disparities between the National Capital Region and other regions with regard to employment opportunities in the labor market, and developing human capital for further contributing to sustainable/inclusive growth. In this research project, we will (1) develop comprehensive country-wide, regional, and (sub)industry-specific data on labor productivity and quality, especially in relation to the recent economic growth, and (2) conduct a preliminary analysis based on (1). The outputs and results will explore the possible research projects and analyses with a focus on the labor market and economic development in the Philippines.
