Middle Eastern Family in Transition (2017_2_40_005)
Outline
The Middle Eastern family has been undergoing major changes in the context of current demographics, ideological shifts and economic developments, including decreasing birthrate, aging population, growing concern for human rights and gender equality, and increasing instability of employment under neo-liberal economic policy. This project aims to elucidate the dynamism of family transformation by looking at the aspects of the multiplicity of institutions (law, cultural-religious norm) and personal experiences living under the institutions based on literature research and ethnographic research. The study particularly focuses on the institutions related to and personal experiences of "the vulnerable" members of family such as women, children, elderly and disabled persons.
