The architectural plan enables natural ventilation throughout the year by opening and closing windows, transoms and a light court.Even when air conditioning system is in operation, the combination of natural exhaust by the solar chimney and a system letting fresh air into the building via the underground cool pit reduces the energy required for air conditioning.
The Environmental Energy Center, which maintains the functions of the campus, has adopted a cogeneration system in which fuel cells,(200 kW), a new energy system, are combined with a gas engine (160 kW). This system contributes to the effective use of energy and improvement of the energy plant’s reliability.
In this system, sewage and waste water generated at the campus are collected at the environmental energy center and subjected to biological treatment, then distributed to each building in the campus together with filtered rainwater as reclaimed water. A biotope was also created to help deal with excess treated water to conserve the surrounding environment and ecosystems.
