Corrosion Testing at EMCC

With corrosion testing through salt spray test we test the corrosion resistance of your products or the corrosion protection they are coated with. Especially products in the maritime environment but also in the automotive, rail and aviation sectors are affected.

In our environmental laboratories we simulate these environmental influences and test your test specimen according to all known standards.

The salt spray test according to DIN EN ISO 9227 (NSS test) is performed in a salt spray chamber. At a temperature of 35 °C, a salt spray mist is generated continuously or cyclically using saline solution (NaCl, solution e.g. 50 ± 5 g/l) with a controlled pH value. The mist surrounds the test specimen with a corrosive salt water film. NSS: neutral salt spray (mixture of demineralized water and common salt).

For projects with additional or special requirements we can adapt the temperature in order to simulate specific climate zones or conditions.

The duration depends on the expected corrosion resistance of the test specimen or its coating, exposure times are e.g. 96 h, 240 h, 480 h, 720 h or more (cyclic execution in alternation with e.g. dry phases possible).

After completion of the salt spray test, the test specimen is visually inspected for damages.
