displacement

1. In physics, displacement is the distance moved in a particular direction. It is a vector quantity. See also electric displacement.

2. In geology, displacement is the relative movements on either side of a fault. It incorporates the direction of change and the specific amount of the movement. Lateral displacement is described as strike slip and strike separation, whereas vertical displacement is known as dip slip and dip separation.
