Energizing Development: Clean air and energy transition

Nuclear energy is vital in offering clean and reliable electricity, particularly for essential services like hospitals, schools, and homes. As urban air pollution worsens for over half of the world’s population, nuclear provides the only reliable and zero-emissions alternative. Global electricity demand increased by 4.3% in 2024, with growth expected to continue at a robust 3.9% (IEA). To meet demands while supporting environmental goals, World Nuclear Association emphasizes the role of nuclear energy in advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Devolpment Goals (SDGs), notably SDG 7, which focuses on ensuring access to affordable and clean energy for all.

- At COP29, six additional countries endorsed the declaration to triple nuclear energy by 2050, bringing the total to 31. This marks an important step toward a long-term global commitment in promoting nuclear as the means to achieve climate goals.
