Fix Google Pixel Buds audio issues

Use the steps below to fix common issues such as no audio, low volume, unwanted noise, or audio cutting out from your Google Pixel Buds, or if your left or right earbud isn’t working.

Pixel Buds doesn't play audio

On your Pixel Buds:

  • Tap the earbuds or your device.
    • Some apps don't work with touch controls on the earbud.
  • Make sure your Pixel Buds and case are charged.
  • Make sure your Google Pixel Buds are on the latest firmware.
  • Remove dirt around the microphone or speaker holes. Do not insert anything inside these openings. Learn how to clean your Google Pixel Buds.

On your device:

  1. Confirm that Bluetooth® is on and your Pixel Buds are both in range and paired with your device.
  2. On your device, turn off Bluetooth, wait for a few seconds then turn it back on.
  3. Your Pixel Buds should automatically reconnect with your device.
    • You can go to your device’s bluetooth settings to connect it with your Pixel Buds if it doesn’t reconnect automatically.
  4. Forget your Pixel Buds from your device. Restart your device and pair it with your Pixel Buds again.
Pixel Buds have low volume

If the volume on both earbuds is too low:

Pixel Buds Pro only: Make sure that Conversation Detection isn’t causing audio to lower or pause. Learn how to change Pixel Buds settings.

Pixel Phones: Turn off Disable absolute volume.

  1. Go to your phone settings.
  2. Tap System and then Developer Options.
  3. Under "Networking," turn off Disable absolute volume.

Non-Pixel Androids: Try one of the fixes below.

  • Enable Media volume sync:
    1. Go to your device’s settings.
    2. Tap Connections and then Bluetooth and thenMore Store three-dots menu.
    3. Tap Advanced settings.
    4. Turn on Media volume sync.
  • Rename your Pixel Buds:
    1. Go to your device’s settings.
    2. Tap Connections and then Bluetooth.
    3. Select your Pixel Buds settings, thenedit the name of the device.
    4. Rename it to ABS-DO-ENABLE.
    5. Touch and hold the device name.
    6. Tap Disconnect, then tap on the device name to reconnect.
Pixel Buds hums or beeps

To prevent unwanted noise, ensure your ear canals are dry before use and regularly clean your Pixel Buds. We recommend to gently brush the mesh sections with a toothbrush and a small amount of micellar water or plain water. Then, let the buds dry completely for 2 hours.

Audio cuts in and out or skips

If the audio on one or both Pixel Buds skips, stutters, or is choppy:

  1. Update to the latest firmware version.
  2. Put the earbuds in the charging case for one minute, then remove them.
  3. Reset your Google Pixel Buds.
  4. Check if the internet connection is working.
  5. Keep the earbuds near your device. Minimize obstructions between them.
Pixel Buds audio isn't clear during calls

Your Google Pixel Buds Pro’s Transparency mode may interfere with calls when you’re in a noisy environment. To improve call quality, try different ANC modes.

Pixel Buds has low bass

If your Pixel Buds doesn’t have enough bass, make sure to:
